The facts:

I've had 2 scooters stolen. Whomever has them now doesn't have the papers.

The Comet is one of the more commonly pilfered rides; the Citi 100 being at the top of the list.

Cops seldom stop me or ask for my papers, but then I've got plates and insurance. People are stopped because they've been doing something obviously illegal.

As Join Me mentioned, you can't get insurance, so when (it will happen) you get into an accident you will be paying out of pocket unless the other guy is 100% at fault (which happens less often than you think despite the driving habits of the locals).

The Comet's electronics are terrible.

The opinion:

I'd own a Comet 250; hands down, but my Citi 100 gets me home and as far as my behind cares to travel.

Ride at your own risk, don't look for trouble and you won't find it.

I have only ever replaced the starter motor on the Comet, other than that the electronics are fine. I think the starter lasted 4 years for the previous owner and it is currently on its second year with me with no problems. I also know people with Mirages who have replaced the starter. It's not the end of the world. Well, it is when it happens but I don't think it's a dealbreaker. The Citi 100 is a real looker, but I'm 107 kgs.

Yes, the Citi 100 does have certain aesthetic qualities; consider the old biker adage, "chrome won't get you home, but it will get you b**wn". For shear reliability it's the tops, and it will haul large loads. However, I do understand your desire to have a ride with larger grunt (I'm only 73Kg and have taken my Citi across the country and through the mountains).

And yes, the great thing about parts over here is that they are inexpensive. So, anything (such as a starter) that you have to replace won't break your pocket. And, of course, you can always bump start should a problem arise.

Pyongshin, you are a good guy and we've done business, so I won't say what I usually say about bikes with no plates on this forum. But I must inform the viewers that many Seoul cops are doing random license checks, they do look, at your plates when you get stopped and the laws are changing next year to require all MC riders to have a MC license, unlike current law where you can drive 125 or less with a car DL. This new law will surely increase enforcement.

I thought the law change was 2010? In any case, I'm fully with Bbop on the need to be legal and insured. If you cant afford plates and insurance, you damn sure cant afford the fines and reparations.

Am I getting you guys right in implying that the Citi 100 looks good? This is the Chinese food delivery bike you're talking about, right?

Yeah, I don't get that either. A motoscooter. Form follows function. About all I could say on that.
