Short version:

I have to have my plane ticket out of Korea by the 14th so that my school can extend my visa until the 31st. I just had to order a new passport because the one i have now was run through the washing machine. There is no way that my new passport is going to be ready by the 14th, I was told 15th at the earliest. My problem is: To get a plane ticket i need to supply a passport number. While i still have my current passport, and it is still officially valid, the passport number on my new passport is going to be different. I'll be forced to surrender my current passport when i pick up my new one. Obviously, having a different passport number than the one listen on the ticket is going to be a problem.

Does anyone have any advice at all? There is no way for me to put off having to buy the ticket and there is no way to get my new passport any quicker.

Is it possible to update the number on the ticket?

Can i somehow just copy my old passport as proof that that was my number, and somehow explain what happened?

Oh, fyi, I'm an American.

Any ideas?

the airlines don't care about the passport number.

They just that the name on the passport matches the name on the ticket.

IF you are flying FROM the states, then all bets are off. They are absolutely stupid / paranoid / anal retentive when it comes to international travel. They really have no clue.

For the rest of the planet, 100% certain.

won't be a problem. you can report it now to your airline if you want to be safe. worse case you spend more time at the airport checking in.
