Okay I've been here a while. Perhaps too long. I've grown tired of 4000w Drafts at Joyces, the luke warm 3000w beer at Obrien's and IP.

Jazz is cool and I'll go there again I'm sure but it is the longest trek for me.

So I ventured into HapSeong Dong a few weeks ago and discover places like Wa Bar, Billy Bar, Bevete and several others all with 4000w draft beer, and over the top prices for bottled beer.

I then found a place called Bandy bar and they had a 660cc tall pilsner style glass of beer (Hite fresh) for 3000w, with soibis of a variety of peanuts.

Wow I was in heaven a short walk from Guam Dong and there it was. Not a bad place good young local crowd nice street scenery, ground floor corner building.

So a lonely weekday night back to HSD and Bandy Bar.

So talking with the bar tender he tells there is another bar call "Uncle Toms" down the street. I told him that it was terrible name for bar but I'd check it out.

Great place fourth floor, pool table, Hite fresh draft 500cc frosty mug ice cold 2500w served with those cylindrical rice crackers and skinned roasted unsalted peanuts. This is one of those show cocktail bars. The bottled beers were sparse Corona, Bud, Bud Ice, Heinies. Korean beers were 3000w the foreigners were 3500w. Did I mention Pool Table

I can report later on the cocktail prices I'm going back tonight. By the way they have a pool table.

I also ran across a new bar called Miller Time, not sure if its new, but they had a balloon arch over the front door.

Does anyone want to join me for a Friday night pub crawl in Hapseong Dong?

I'll update this thread later.

Okay I did a final Recon on Hapseong Dong last night and this is what I came up with.

MEET UP:

We can meet up at Uncle Toms 10:00pm.
I dont like the name so from here on Ill call it Toms.

How to get there?

FROM MASAN:
Take a bus or Taxi to HapSeong Dong there is a Bus stop right near the CGV Cinema.
From there walk one block to the Lotteria turning right onto HapSeongNam 4 gil.
Go through one intersection Bandy Bar is to your right at ground level.
Continue to the next intersection you will see the GS25 Mart turn left.
At the end of the GS25 building there is a staircase and elevator.
Go to the fourth floor and you are there.

List of establishments on the itinerary.

Toms - Cocktail Show bar, POOL TABLE
Bandy Bar Bar with street view
Praha Large Hof
Long Life Large Hof
Miller Time Beer Bar
Cool Beer Mart Low Cost Bottled Beer
Dope Low Cost Bottled Beer

Here are my reviews of the establishments on the crawl itinerary.

Toms, is the meet up spot, mostly because of the pool table. The Draft Hite is cheap at 2500w for a 500cc mug. Bottled beer is also priced right the selection is limited. Cocktails are 5000w and the selection is quite limited, for instance rum and coke is not on the menu and from what I could interpret not available, however gin & tonic is.

Bandy Bar is good also Draft Hite is 3000w for a 660cc tall pilsner style glass. They make cocktails though I didnt scope them out as well as I should have. Highly recommended is you like watching the crowds go by street level lots of windows and plenty of traffic, usually a busy place.

Praha, I call it a large Hof is because there is no bar. Basically they are hoping to sell you a set or at least a dish of typical Korean Hof food. The beer was priced right at 2500w for 500cc mug. Bud for 4000w Tiger/Tsing Tao for 6000w Cocktails for 6000w. Bevet is upstairs from here and I think its pretty much the same, I did not recon Bevet. Big screen TV.

Long Life is also a large hof type place however it is unique in that they serve the beer in strange decanters in three sizes prince, queen and king. Selection of food is again typical Korean Hof food. I did like those funny beer glasses though.

Miller Time just opened it is a beer hof, Miller Draft on tap 3000w MGD Bottle 5000w. Other than that nothing spectacular.

Cool Beer Mart is exactly that, a mart that sells beer and snacks. Now the prices are a little higher than the GS25 but less than most bars. For instance bottle of Guiness is 7000w.
They have tables (not outside plastic ones) and friendly staff. A place called C Hunter is in this same building I thought it was over priced.

Dope is another beer mart type place pretty good. In this same building is Millertown a small well priced Hof.

Also in Hapseong Dong is the batting cages and the air-gun gallery. I can direct you the cages but we will need to get directions to the Air-Gun Gallery.

Most of these places are on one street so verbal directions will be available from the meet up point.

Ill probably be at Toms before 9:30 and plan to stay there at least until 11:00 before I crawl out to the other places, this isnt a guided tour but just an opportunity for every one to see another side of the Masan & Changwon nightlife. Though there is no Outback or Bennigans, there is Pizza Hut and other varieties of pizza place, McDonalds, Dunkins, that Vietnamese noodle joint, and all the pork barbecue you can imagine. For shopping the main road has many shops and there is a large underground mall.

Pardon my ignorance, but where the heck is Masan? Is it near Changwon?

Yes Masan is the port city to the west and south of Changwon. Bus 705 or 115 from JungAng Dong (ChangWon Hotel, Emart) in Changwon will take you to HapSeong Dong, in Masan. Hapseong dong is generally between the HapSeong Dong Bus terminal and the Masan Train station.

If you are familiar with Changwon and know where PalYong Dong is, then HapSeong Dong is not far from there.

Basically if you west by north on the main Changwon Boulevard all the way to the Changwon Station then turn left heading generally south on the main Masan thoroughfare maybe 4 or five bust stops later, here you are.

So any city bus from ChangWon with Masan Yeok on the stop list will go past HapSeong Dong.

The local watering hole for foreingers in the Kyungnam University area of Shin-Masan is the "Jazz Bar."

I haven't been inside but it might be up your alley. Take a bus to Kyungnam-dae, just 20 min. from Hapsung-dong. Go through Masan si-chung and get off one stop before the uni on the same side.

Unfortuneately I was unimpressed with my time here in Masan. The only thing basically to do here on the weekends is stay home, go out of town or drink.

Best place to consume alchohol, I've found, is in Busan while watching a Lotte Giants game. I'm not a bar guy.

Yes the Jazz bar is nice and fun but I think I've been there one time too many, that is why I have posted this Pub Crawl event, so that we can have something different once in a while, been through Changwon and Changdong, and ShinMasan, kyeong nam offers nothing new Joyce's has been raising the price of beer ever since I got here, Hooligan's was nice little find but is merely a higher class of Hof.

The event I outlined in my previous post also offers batting cages and an air gun gallery, tons of restaurants and shopping.

Basically a change from the typical Changwon/Masan Night at Obriens or IP or Jazz. Other than the Bacon Cheese burger and 3000w shots at Obriens, I dunno I want something more something different.

Obriens and Jazz will still be there next week.

Yes there is something different to do in this neck of the woods, it ain't Seoul but we can try harder.

I emailed all the Masan Teachers that are on my distribution list.

I don't have a changwon teachers list.

I tried to reach who I could.

Feel free to cut and paste and email who ever you like.

Pub crawl? Sounds like something we'd like to have at the DAY OF DISCORD!
Move along little toadies to Gunpo: we will march through this town like a hot knife through warm trees.

The PUB crawl was quite successful. Staring at Tom's we drank cheap beer and played pool.

We headed to Dope for some cheap bottled beer Bud 1800w, Urquell for 3500w. Watched some of the Olympic ceremonies and snacked on popcorn fresh from the microwave.

From there we headed to Miller Time, fresh MGD straight from the tap.

Then we went back to Tom's to play some more pool. We were joined a by a traveling troubadore with his guitar for a few songs.

We finished up at the bandy Bar and split a pitcher of Hite 1700cc for 8000w.

I went home after that some of the others headed to Jazz.
