Why are so many (insert ethnic group and country here) unpleasant to be around?
Every country has it's share of assholes and England is certainly no different in this respect.

This thread is laced with xenophobia... it's odd that so many Dave's posters complain the Koreans are xenophobic...

Take a look in a the wanking mirror, mates!

The English are this, the English are that.

Gimme a break. As if they're all cut from the same cookie-cutter.

Of all the people I've met from different countries, the English have been the most consistently well-liked group I've met. I've heard a lot of complaints about people from here and there but I can't say that I've ever heard anyone seriously say they've met an English person and can't stand them.

I'm sure there are idots from every country but given a choice, I'd much prefer to be surrounded by idiots from England than idiots from anywhere else. I'm firmly convinced that the idot to non-idiot ratio in England is far better than the idot to non-idiot ratio of most other countries.

Lol, love the video! Who's that dancing in the background? It looks like Donny Osmond.

Excerpt from a recent interview with Chris Martin of Coldplay

Interviewer: Everyone picks up a certain emotional vulnerability in your music.
Martin: Yeah, but I dont think thats just a feminine thing. All men are soft and vulnerable, as well.I think we boys, we men, are actually much weaker and softer than we like to think.

As nautilus said, taking the pixx is not something all English indulge indont be fooled. If youre hard, all you do is whack anyone on the nose who tries it.

And now that Ive had a chance to reflect on how I and other overly-sensitive, humourless non-English people have reacted to English manners in the past, I see that a sharp verbal whack on the nose is likely often the best medicine when dealing with a w@nker.
So, the next time Im faced with a White male w@nker from the Isle o Manners who doesnt seem to get it when the teased person isnt laughing, Ill try to improvise it something like this:

Me: Excuse me. We hardly know each other. I dont want you talking to me/my friend in that way, please.

English man: What do ya mean, mate? Just taking the pixx. Relax, have a laugh.

Me. Its obvious youre English. Does that mean you have to be an axxhole?

English man: What? Why, Ill.!

Me: Relax, mate! Have a laugh. Just taking the pixx.

Of course, such an improvised script works best while White and Nerdy music video is played in the background. BTW, tigerbluekitty, what you say also, contains so much painful truth!! I guess I need to feel more empathy for those sorry w@nkers............
perhaps keep one or two around the house as pets.

After all, when Im out wandering the globe and I feel the unhealthy need for an English language newspaper, 9 times out of 10, if Im able to choose between, say, the Guardian or the International Herald Tribune, Ill choose the Guardian..for the IHT feels too cold for me, doesnt insulate underneath as I sleep on a park bench somewhere near you.

I had a similar knee-jerk reaction to Australians when I lived there and I developed an irrational hatred for the majority of Australians that I encountered. After a while I mellowed, and could only put my unreasonable reaction down to sharing a language but not a culture. I thought that, because we had a language in common, I understood their attitudes and behavior, and could therefore look down upon them from my mountain-top. I was wrong.

Making sweeping generalisations about different nationalities is just silly.

In this world there are those who are twats, and those who are not.

(the OP is probably a *beep*)

For all its claims to individualism, England is actually an incredibly conformist society. They ridicule and isolate anyone who is different. As far as creating an image, the more they all try to be different, the more they are the same.
40 years ago looking scruffy, having messy hair and a leather jacket, taking drugs was all rebellish. Now they all do it. Anyone who doesn't is the true rebel.
