Dear All,
I was wondering how the Korean eduction system works.
Specifically, is the case that children go to public school from 8am-2pm then, for many, go to hakwons straight after for english learning?
Or can students study the entirity of their education, including English, in Hakwons as opposed to public schools?
I was just wondering because a lot of the hagwon jobs advertised start and finish at varying times, anything from 10am - 6pm or 2pm-9pm.

at my school last year, the kids had to be in school at 8:30 to do their chores, classes started at 9:10 and ended at 3:10. then it was more chores until 3:40ish. of course there were 10 min breaks thrown in there between classes and a 50 min lunch. although schools do vary with start and end times

those jobs starting at 10am might be for kids not yet in school, mommy classes, adjuma classes, the 2-9pm shift will probably involve school-age children. remember hagwons sometimes have you come in early to prep or just to be there for appearances |

Elementary school kids go to public school from about 8.30/9 to 1/2/3 depending on what grade they're in. Middle schoolers from about 8/8.30 to 4.30ish. High schoolers from 8/9 to anywhere from 5.00 to 11PM depending on what grade and kind of programme they're in. All private academy hours fall outside these times for students of various respective ages. Kindergartens are all private and could be any hours, but are usually either morning or morning and early afternoon. Kindergarten also includes preschool and could mean working with kids as young as two in western ages.
Most hagwons that have a kindergarten programme require new teachers to come in for a few morning classes and then start teaching again in the afternoon when the elementary students start coming in. Generally speaking, the earlier the hours the younger the kid and the later the hours, the older. |
