Uh, what exactly are they trying to say?
Plus, do Koreans know anything about Audrey Hepburn?

Koreans love the old movies featuring Audrey in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's' for one. They do like good old movies but I dislike the branding of an old time movie for a mobile phone.

Yeah, they drive me crazy, too.

1) It's MOON river, not whatever they're singing!
2) I don't think she ever came to Korea.
3) If they're going to say "label" at least pronounce it right! "Labelle", isn't that Patti's last name?
4) Isn't Black Label a brand of beer??

"I am Audrey Hepburn. I am Black LaBELL."

Did they mean American R&B and soul singer Patti LaBelle?

I was going to make a thread about this having just seen the ad on a bus. I really don't understand what the hell Audrey Hepburn has to do with a cell phone.

I am Audrey Hepburn
I am secret

She passed away in 1993.

I am still trying to understand what the relationship is between cosmetics and HITLER...

http://www.welcometowallyworld.com/frontpage/2008/4/23/korean-nazi-ad-pulled.html

i asked a korean friend about CONTEXT ...

which koreans often ignore....

he said it was a cultural thing...

koreans have an odd... "understanding" of context ...

whereas i speak or write from the general to the specific...

but koreans and some others will attack the general introductory statement and completely ignore any other CONTEXT...

may be with the way that the korean language is structured...

i am beginning to think...

I had to laugh at this, an 'odd understanding of context' eh: what a load of ba11$.

I wonder if we could use the same trash to justify the Top Gear programme that trashed Korean cars for an hour in response to the then Korean outrage.

They do indeed trash a lot of cars. I am wondering whether the Japanese (or any other nation that has its cars criticised for that matter) began a media / netizen crusade against Topgear and Jeremey Paxman on the back of it... *

Which contrasts with Koreans who use Nazi imagery for a cosmetics commercial because, as you are alluding to, they have little regard for 'context' and is therefore acceptable?

Actually I am not sure what you point was again, care to explain?

* Although he did do a thoroughly good job if I remember correctly (demonstrating how various models wouldn't go up a hill, how the only korean car at the time was actually good but effectively not worth buying because 'of the Korean name that comes with it' and building a car at the end of the show made out of washing machines claiming that it offered better value and quality then most Korean cars).

Hepburn is pure elegance. From Jo Stockton to ELiza Doolittle to Holly Golightly --no matter what the role, she brought grace and elegance to the screen in a way few have ever been able to do since.

Maybe that's the context they are trying to convey? A graceful and elegant phone?

"Actually I am not sure what you point was again, care to explain? "

Using Audrey Hepburn, with a mispronunciation of "label" is almost but not quite as weird as using Hitler and a model in a vaguely S.S. uniform to promote cosmetics. Hitler and the S.S. have a negative connotation for someone who's family suffered under the Nazis.

To my "sarcastic" friend, you know who you are:

You are very witty and wise.

I am outta here for now. I'm gonna watch "Appleseed" now...

"Netizens" rejoice in your anonymity, unaccountability... your cowardice...
