i apologize in advance if this has been answered before, but I couldn't find anything using search.

I know that an HIV test is required in addition to a criminal background check to get an E-2 visa.

My question is, what kind of HIV test? I just called a testing clinic that does a blood test for antibodies and it costs $119 US. On the other hand I suspect i can get a swab test for much less.... will the swab test be acceptable to the Consulate? Or will they require a blood test, which is more accurate?

I'm compiling these docs in advance (CBC, HIV test, transcript, etc) because i want to expedite the process when I get an offer. As such do not have any documentation to refer to.

Thanks in advance.

i've been told that i must get those tests done in korea at a designated hospital. i wouldn't waste money on things that may not be accepted at immigration.

from what i've read of this new medical test it's often less than $100 for everything in korea.

here's a link with a rather lengthly bit about the E2 visa:

http://www.hikorea.go.kr/pt/InfoDetailR_en.pt?categoryId=2&parentId=382&catSeq=385&showMenuId=374&visaId=E2

you will be able to get a job and this visa without the medical test, however when you get to korea you will have 90 days to get your alien registration card (ARC) which requires this medical check. after you get your ARC, you can get medical insurance, so it's best to get this done asap when you get over there

From what I understand, you have to get all of the medical check stuff done in Korea at a designated hospital.
I just had my medical check done last month. It cost me a total of 58,000W. That included the HIV test.

According to the Immigration regulations, the medical check can be done at a government hospital (국립병원 or 공립병연) or a general hospital (종합병원). The following are the relevant sections of the E-2 regulations in Korean and English, taken from the Immigration Guide on the HiKorea website (http://www.hikorea.go.kr):

Korean:
Quote:

English:
Quote:
- Submit health examination records upon applying to be a registered foreigner after entering Korea.
※ Recruitment health exam MUST include TBPE test(tests for drug abuse) and HIV test (tests for AIDS) results(cannabinoid test for Marijuana need not to be included)

I'd suggest printing them out (especially the Korean) and taking them with you so the hospital will give you what you need.

I wouldn't worry about it. Since you are a foreigner, you automatically have HIV/AIDS once you step onto Korean soil.
