i am an australian citizen having trouble getting this certificate of residency from the australian tax office. I have lodged a non lodgment advice notice for the 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 financial years as i have no dealings in australia. Now ive applied for a certificate of residency to the ATO and they are saying i am not an australian resident for tax purposes and thus cannot issue me this certificate. They told me to apply for a private ruling application form. I suspect the lady at the tax office has no idea what she is talking about.
Has anyone ever gone through this much trouble and do you even need to give a certificate to your employer?
i hope everything has made sense and any help would be appreciated.
Thanks |

Isn't a passport good enough to verify this? |
