Hi. I am starting a school for elementary school students. I have found all of my materials and am almost prepared to start the school. The only thing that I am lacking is the proper level tests. Everything I have found on the internet seems too dificult for these young students. Any help or info is much appreciated.

The best way to make a placement test is to take the textbooks you plan to use and base questions on what the texts are supposed to teach. That will give you the best idea of what students are best suited to what text material. Of course, your academy's lessons should be based around more than textbooks, but at least it's a start. You should also start with simpler verb tenses and incresase the difficulty of tense and / or conjugation with each question.

Here are a couple of written tests I've made for older students. I'm not sure how they'd work as oral tests for younger students.

What those other guys said. If you can't make up tests for these kids, use the examples given and let us know which cert program you attended, assuming you did a program.

Testing is much more difficult that it seems, at least if one is to produce valid tests. My cert program sluffed over this part of the course. I had to improvise later, meaning when I first started out, my students were guinea pigs. Not good.

That's very true. Assessing students you've already been teaching for a while is hard enough. Assessing ones you've just met can be almost impossibly, especially if it's hard to tell how much pyschological factors are holding them back.

And whatever you do, don't come and post on this forum asking for help, it upsets the "qualified" teachers

thanks for the constructive input. We are going to go with the PELT English Level Tests system. It seems very thorough and in the one hour that we have with each kid should be able to get the job done.

Moosehead, thanks for your concern but we've already hired the teachers that we need. Now go back to being smarter than everyone...
