My social circle needs replenishing. I've got board games. Maybe these two things could have something do with each other.
No Monopoly or Risk, though, sorry. These are mostly games that topped the lists at www.Boardgamegeek.com or caught my eye at the board game cafe.
Here's what I've got at the moment:
Settlers of Catan -- tile based resource management
Catan (with Traders and Barbarians expansion) -- 2-player card-based
Candamir (from the folks who make Catan) -- exploration
Carcasonne (with Inns and Cathedrals expansions) -- tile-based territorial
Metro -- tile-based geometric
Ingenious -- tile-based geometric
Twilight Struggle -- card-based, world domination (set in Cold War)
Killer Bunnies -- card-based, murder and mayhem
Dutch Blitz -- speedy card-based game
Illuminati -- card-based, world domination
maybe a few more I've forgotten about...
I've got an idea for a club name, but I'd like to hear your thoughts. I'd be happy to host it, but I don't know who would come down to Yongin to play, so we could hold it in a cafe in Seoul too.

That sounds like fun and I would go but your games all sound like math problems??? What about Scatergories or Taboo.... |

Sigh.
Live a little. Do something you haven't been doing since you were 8.
The weird thing is, I searched for people who listed board games on their Facebook profiles in South Korea, and an alarming percentage of results (maybe 25%) were shirtless, ripped men. No kidding.

Carcasonne rules, many happy days drinking wine with my friends and playing that.
You should check out "Die Kutschfahrt Zur Teufelsburg" it's like werewolf with more strategy and cards, loads of fun.

What ever happened to just plain scrabble or shirades.
I will still go for the hot men in ripped shirts though!! |

Catan is BIG. I heard someone talking about it the Wolfhound this weekend. My friend went back home and found out his best mate had fallen in love with it too. I started a few years ago. I even bought a copy at GrandMart Department Store in Shinchon!
Carcasonne was introduced to me by a Finnish guy. Most board game cafes here have a copy.
The other games are a bit obscure. I learned Killer Bunnies thanks to Tommynomad (former poster here.) Dutch Blitz is really popular with the Mennonites back home. The rest were just random or highly rated.
Oh, just in case you want the next level of nerdiness, I just remembered another game: it's called Order of the Stick, and it's based on a web-comic which is a spoof of Dungeons and Dragons. Woah.

catan is awesome and one of many games improved by alcohol (though it certainly works well without).
have you tried any of the games by gigamic? I like them too. |
