There are way too many events in the Olympics and some of them have got to go. Now, I'm not just being selfish and asking to get rid of events I don't watch. I'd never watch soccer, track, gymnastics, or marathon stuff, but you can't get rid of those.
However, there are some completely retarded events. For starters, we have to lose anything in which the athletes can be fat. If you're fat, you're not a real Olympian.
Goodbye to: archery and shooting
I wouldn't argue these are easy activities, but come on, too many fat people involved. |
Have you seen the 50m air pistol event? They have to hit a tiny speck and are judged on how close to the centre of the speck they hit. Anyone who can do that deserves an Olympic medal in my book.
Archery is damn hard too.
Curling now...that's a joke. They might as well have Olympic bowling. |

I've changed my mind. Keep the olympics the way they are and ditch the winter olympics.
I'm sick of running into canadians, who talk about 'the olympics', then mention ice hockey, curling or whatever.
Its the 'Winter Olympics' not the 'Olympics', you tards. |

Couldn't agree with those choices more. I'd just add sailing. |

Soccer squads that are sent to the games are generally severely understrength.

Thats because the rules state that all bar 3 members of the team must be under the age of 23.
As someone else mentioned earlier in the thread watching olympic soccer is a good way to get a feel for who will be strong at the next world cup (2 years later). |
yeah I know about that rule, but thats why they have underage FIFA championships for. It's a mess, Brazil u23 plus Ronaldihno, Argentina u23 plus Lionel Messi (actually I think Messi wasnt even permitted by Barca to travel to Beijing).
anyway, an Olympic medal for football is nice to show the grandkids, but it doesn't mean you're the best of the best, which is what an Olympic medal is suppoused to mean. |

No. Wrong. I'm with the Canadians on this one. Sport is sport, regardless of which season it gets played in. The Winter Olympics is still the Olympics. |

I dont disagree that this is not the best football competition but then again, what about all the boxers, is winning the heavyweight gold at the Olympics better than the world champions belt?
Sorry being a bit pedantic.
Fact is soccer is a popular sport, it will put bums on seats as opposed to some of the other "sports" that have already been listed in this thread. |

| That means curling has to go as well. |
I'm perpetually confused as to which Olympic Curling Team was fat since the introduction in Nagano. There were 0 overweight women and probably an equal amount of men who would be considered fat (not by Korean standards which dictate that anything bigger than size 2 is Elephant)
Anyway if you get rid of Curling you have to get rid of the X-game type sports and several of the Summer events. Beach VollyBall is just a T&A Event. Basketball can go, walking can go....
The reasons Canada is better at Winter olympics are;
1- We have 6 Months of snow and the other 6 months it is cold enough in some places to make ice in August.
2- Olympians are only given about 20,000 CDN to train ever year. It's cheap to have a curling club membership.
Anyway you slice it we come in 16th in most events so let us have our cake when it comes to sports we're good at. |

| I don't think weight should be any sort of judge, put a whooper on the finish line and some fat guy might be the fastest mofo on earth for 100 meters. It should just come down to if its an actual ATHLETIC competion, archery and shooting are amazing skills but its not atheletic, might as well have olympic starcraft, those buggers got twitch hot key skills that boggle the mind. |

I know the winter olympics contain sport, but it is not 'The Olympics'. That title is for the summer games. Its just a pet peeve and seeing as we were removing sports, i thought it would be nice to eliminate that annoyance at the same time. |
