I am happy to hear that you are better Homer. I have a question for you. When I returned to Toronto with my family, I knew that we wouldn't be covered by OHIP (that is the Ontario Health plan which provides free medical care, well not free as we pay for it through taxes) We purchased travel medical insurance just in case. Luckily we did, as my 10 month old son had a fever of 103, and we had to take him to emergency. For the 4 hour visit, it cost close to $300.

I guess what I am getting to is, did you get travel medical insurance? If there is anything I can do, please let me know. I too am from Toronto, and have many contacts in the city. If you need anything or any support, I would be more than willing to stretch out my arm across the world to help.

All the best to you and your family. I am certain that tensions within your wife have subsided, and I hope that your little dude managed as well as he could. I would imagine that he did, seeing as he has a strong father to guide him.

Be well.

Homer!!! I just checked the stickys, and saw this post. Your one of the few who remember the "good old days" AND haven't been banned and had to change your name. We had some great chats way back then.

Glad to hear that things are starting to look up for you. Surgery is no fun, but the results are worth the pain.

My thoughts are with you,

Ajuma

HOMER!

I'm glad you're a-okay. I haven't posted as I had a timeout-I generalised about my gracious, intelligent and well-mannered hosts, as do a certain nationality about "foreingners". It's okay for unnamed others to do that, but I will be specific and exact, especially to any issue concerning South Korea and South Koreans-not Koreans, as that is too vague.

Good on you, and I'm glad you have your family to help you recuperate-we will have tasty delicious Lotteria Korean culture food when you're up for it.

It's ture, certain unmentionable poster, it's damn true.

Glad to hear of your recovery. Sorry to hear that the whole unfortunate incident happened in the first place.
As a soon-to-be teacher in Korea and expat, DRIVING a CAR on the FREEways, and especially in the cities with all those STOP signs and RIGHTS OF WAY is something I specifically seek not to do in Korea and WILL NOT miss from the good ol' US of A. Also, car insurance, repair bills, oil leaks, gas prices, etc. . .but I do enjoy being witness to city traffic in Korea. Boring back home, entertaining in the land of equal rights for scooters. You'll see the Running of the Red Light rituals there in a much different light now, I suppose. Driving intoxicated is more seriously treated, too, I know.

Chris ( Homer ), hope things going smooth with your recovery.
I didn't want to say this during you were in critical condition, so I waited...

The things you need to do is lawsuit against that driver.
Like I mentioned early here, I've been in smilar situation, the driver who caused accident with me wasn't drunken driver, he was 19 years old careless driver. Suing him isn't really suing him, it's suing insurance company of his car. I don't know about Canada, but in America good lawyers usually bring as a settlement 4 times of what the victims had to spend for their recovery at hospital ( it means 4 times of hospital bill ). It's not just hospital bill, it's also lost wage, mental stress...etc.

99.999 % of this kind lawsuits reach settlement without ever going to court, so find a good lawyer and do all the paper work before you come back to korea, then it will take cared itself, it's not all about money, it's about importment lesson you need to give the person who cased so much pain/difficulty on your life.

So please do " lawsuit against that drunken driver " before you come back to korea. In America lawyer usually take 30 % of amount of the settlement and in my case it took about one year.

Take care Chris !

a wonderful example of one of the things wrong with americans, and apparently even those who aren't american but go there for whatever reason. as much as i love my country, there sure are some greedy sh*ts here.... Evil or Very Mad

it should be clarified- i am not familiar with the homer situation and it is great that he is better. i don't know who was at fault or any details. this is not a remark based towards him and what he should/shouldn't do, this is based the above quote being the mindset of far too many people as a means to get money, not to address a wrong against them.

This is so true. A few years back, my cousins got into a bad accident on the way to school. The one who was seriously injured sued his brother (the driver) and received a nice settlement from the insurance company. Of course my uncle had to pay a bit more in insurance premiums after that, but that was nothing in comparison to what the injured brother received.

I am not one to ressurect old threads but I felt I had to take the time and post a short message. I will therefore use his account to post my thanks (this is Chris/Homer by the way).

I want to thank those of you who offered good wishes after my accident. I am well now and after a few post-op setbacks I have no lingering effects from the fractures and internal bleeding. The rehab was a tough patch but my family and friends were extremely supportive.

I am set to return to Korea soon (I hope) when I get the full green light from the docs (still have 2 checkups to complete). We are also expecting our second child in the spring and my wife went ahead to Seoul with our son to prep the appartment. I should be joining them soon.

I also want to apologize to those who wished to send flowers or even visit me in the hostpital but my wife was very unconfortable with sharing such private information as the hospital I was at with what she considered perfect strangers. There was also an issue of certain messages I had received when I was still a member on this forum. These ranged from insults about my wife ethnicity to my insults about my sons' mixed heritage. My wife read some of these and that was my mistake because at first I thought these messages were pathetic and sad and basically laughed them off. So, that explains her reaction to the request for contact information.

I did get your messages through Patrick and by email from those who sent them. I want to thank you for that. I apologize for taking so long to write this thank you note.

Very Happy

If you get up to Seoul, we should have a beer. Very Happy

Homer;

From what I understand, you were getting a job with the Canadian government, weren't you? So if it's not too personal, why are you coming back to Korea? By the way, glad to hear that you've made a full recovery.
