I am looking to work in the public schools, but I do not want to live or work in an area that is rural or to country. Does anyone have any suggestions of what areas I should stay away from?
I am looking to work and live in a city or urban area that gives me something to do at night and during the day. In general I do not want to be talking to the cows or walls during the night or day.
I am living in the Orlando area of Florida in the United States. If anyone is familiar with this location or the Tampa, Fort Lauderdale area, this is the type of location that I am looking to work and live in?

You won't find it in Korea.

I've been to Florida and it is boring as h*ll. That's where old people go to die. So, a country life would be pretty similar.

From the sounds of it, you want to live in a mid-size city. Try Taejon, Gwangju, Changwon or Daegu.

why not look at the big amusement park cities?

Seoul has Lotteworld

Then there's Everland just south of that. Though from what people say on the boards, it isn't so much a Disneyland as they'd have us believe...

I actually was at Lotteworld, or at least outside it. They had bowling and iceskating too. Seoul seems to be where all the action is, obviously. It got a bit much for me.

Go for Busan.

You've got the beach, cleaner air. Still a city, but not bad.

The people are more kind as well.

Also try Bundang, if you want to be near Seoul (45 mins).

do you seriously expect us to list every small town in Korea that you should not go to?

Just tell the recruiter or shcool you want to live in the city.

Seoul, Pusan, Daejeon, Daeju, Jeolla do Kwangju. that pretty much covers it. Bundang and Ilsan are fine too I guess.

Check these and you can't go wrong:

Yeosu, Mokpo, Sokcho, Pohang. Tongyoung and Masan as well. Maybe even Jinju.

The advice I always give potential newbies is to head for ONLY Seoul or Pusan. Youll get several 3 or 4 day weekends over your first year, and you can check out other locations then (it's only 3.5 hours to Pusan from Seoul!). If these cities are too much for you, then head to smaller ones should you decide to stay.

And don't let recruiters or anyone else say such-and-such area is 'only 45 minutes or hour away from Seoul'. It's a long, crap communte by any standards, and those places don't have much to do.

Bingo, and you have to be on the ground to suss things out right. Hey, the way I look at it, Seoul has been the cultural, political, and economic capital of the country for over 600 years. Some people say, 'Oh, you have to live in the sticks to get to know the country.' Really? I don't think so.

To each their own. The first year, though, it's better to be safe than sorry.

So, I should only except jobs that I work and live in the city and that are at least walking distance or a short bus ride? If they say, I would work or live in the suburbs and commute either way, I should say no?

I first want to apologize being I am new to gathering this information. I thought there are basically three school districts Epic,Gepic ,and SMOE. Sorry about the spelling. I thought each of these districts place you at schools of their choice which in-turn could place me in a schools that are located in the suburbs of Seoul,Busan or any other major city ? I could live in the city and still work in the suburbs and visa -versa. I would still translate to a 45 minute bus ride. Please explain? Thanks

I'm a newbie and I'm going to be living on Jeju. I hope they place me in the sticks. Who wants to be in a smog infested city with no peace and quiet?
