Everywhere I go, it's the sos. Canadians want to prove themselves, like there's something worth competing for, ie., language ability, teaching ability, income, etc. It's as if they've found their niche here.

Which is laughable, since there's nothing to compete for, meaning, this job's such a no-brainer it's as if the Canadians have realized there must be some sort of intelligence outside of Canada and alas, they've got something to prove.

I had Canadian friends in Korea; I'm Canadian, and I'm currently living in Canada and I can honestly say your theory is bunk. Perhaps you need to attract a different type of person.

I agree. And underwaterbob is also correct. If teaching is a no-brainer, then you are not doing it right.

I don't believe you've actually met any Canadians.

Word. I've been in education for 20 years, and it's still a challenge. Course, anyone who skates by and does the barest of minimum required, well sure, I can see how it would be a no-brainer to them. Only problem is, if the teacher isn't using his brian, he can't very well expect the students to.

Canadian Competition Complex? LOL!

I thought this thread was going to be about Canadians' lack of competitive spirit.

I keep reading about our Olympians, and how they "tried so hard" and were "happy just to be there to compete".

In other words, loser talk.

Too many Canadian Olympians (and I know plenty personally) had the sole goal of "making it to the Olympics".

We need more of a competitive spirit! Smaller, poorer countries are medaling, while we aren't.

More spirit, and more government funding!

I'd be happy with more corporate sponsorship of amateur sport. That's the only way the "fringe" sports (ie. things that are not skiing or hockey) get funded.

More funding my asss. They don't get tons of funding in Korea, for most sports.

It's called bust your asss, get your name on the board, and then maybe you'll get some funding.

Oh c'mon, Y.F. You sound just as bad when you say that you don't want more government money going toward sports. Anyone who's played "at that level of competition" would be all for it.

If the gov't gave us money for new rowing shells or for pocket money so we can afford more than Kraft Dinner to eat, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it. I don't think they should have to fund amateur sports, but with other countries doing it you can't get around it if you want to stay competitive. Sponsorship sure as shit isn't there. But if I had a choice, I'd rather it was sponsorship money that funded it... the pockets of private companies are deeper than the gov't (unless they go balls out with gov't support like China, or the old Germany and USSR...which most countries can't afford).

People like blas can say "bust your ass" all they want, but if you don't have the money to buy modern equipment or pay the coaches and support staff or upgrade to modern training facilities, you won't be competitive. You need the money at the amateur level; I just think gov't money would be better used elsewhere.

Canadian's can't win at the Olympics because they come from a country lacking a strong work ethic. Even their Olympic athletes are inherently lazy!

Don't you see you just "proved" what was written?

See yourselves in another light, Canadians, and stop trying to join the bandwagon of wagging your fingers at America, because personally, I'm sick of snobs.
