|
|
Ok, so my girlfriend and I are arriving in Korea in a week or so to teach with GEPIK.
Our schools we were placed at had requested a couple, but the heads at GEPIK had told them that it would be impossible to get a couple for the two schools. So my school went ahead and put a deposit in for a single apartment close to their school.
Meanwhile, we show up as a couple, and my school says they can't give up the housing to find somewhere larger and closer to the other school.
The way it stands, we're going to be in a small apt and my girlfriend is going to have to commute 20 minutes to school.
Anyone have some advice on what we should do? |

20 mins ain't bad. Just make sure if she lives w/ you in your apt that she gets her housing allowance instead of the apt she should get. If it ain't getting done that way you guys are suckers. |

Yeah. The housing allowance has been discussed and we'll get it. |

Is it 20 minute by cab or by bus?
That extra allowance is like beer money and vacation money if properly managed.
If it starts feeling crowded head out to the GS25 for a beer.
Start thinking cozy thoughts.
We're all camping here in Korea. |

20 mins is supposed to be by bus.
And the space isn't an issue, it's just the distance. Or is that type of commute common? |

it's not bad at all, i had about that last year on the train. although it sucks spending the extra money on transportation, the good thing (for me anyways) was living far enough from my students so that i wasn't constantly running into them and their parents at the grocery store, theatre, restaurant, etc. |

Think of it this way.... a majority of teachers here have to commute to work! I think it would suck living so close to the school. I live in the town nearby but all the kids know where I live. I've had kids stand outside my windows and watched me..... |

Could be worse...... much worse.
I heard of a kindy hagwon that had a couple of teachers, and they ALL lived in the same building as the school, on the SAME floor as three of the classes. To quote Cartman, "talk about a sticky situation!!!" |
