Korea is weird.
It seems that all of my students think I'm rich because I ride a Honda...
A 100cc Honda scooter isn't exactly a rich man's vehicle, now is it?
Ahh....Korea..... |

|
|
Hey everyone,
Ok. I'm an idiot.
I was out the other night in Sinchon and I somehow lost my keys, in particular my scooter keys. My question is: how on earth do I go about getting a new set? I'm sure this has happened to foreigners before. Losing things is almost second nature!
If anyone has gone through this ordeal and knows how to help, please email me at [email protected] or even better post it on this thread so other people like me can read it in the future. I don't know what to do.
Thanks Bryan |

Hi
I am in the very early stages of planning a trans-eurasian motorbike trip. When I say early stages, I mean the idea came to me on Tuesday and I can't get it outta my head. I did some motorbiking and Vietnam and Cambodia, but obviously that was on a much smaller scale.
Anyway, I've already hit a stumbling block. My plan was to buy a bike here and catch a boat to China, then start the trip. However, I've since heard that it's near impossible to get a bike into China.
So, is this true? How do I get around it? I've been advised that drving across Russia is probably a bad idea - dangerous for a variety of reasons. This means that the best option is to head south. Like I say, I want to buy a bike here, not in Vietnam or wherever. At the same time, I don't want to transport a bike by ship to VN.
Can I get round this China thing? How about bribery?!? That always worked a treat in Vietnam.
Thanks for any advice.

In addition, how mcuh should I be spoending if I want a bike that's gonna make it across a super-continent?
The stuff I did in VN and Cambodia was on a DR350 (I think). I'm assuming something a bit meatier would be necessary for this kind of endeavour.

Greetings Bryangibson,
So you lost your only set of keys and feel like a bit of a muppet. Well the same thing happened to me a couple of years ago, ironically about the time I was going to get some more keys cut. So what do you do? Ask someone at your school to ring up a locksmith, one who does call-out jobs, and ask them to meet you at your bike. Also, if your bike is Japanese, the lock smith will probably need to know this as the keys are a bit different and take longer to copy.
Good luck, |

Not sure about how you'll get your bike into china, But a good website for this kind of trip is http://advrider.com/. The forums on this site should answer any questions you have regarding gear and the bike you'll need for the trip. Good luck and keep us posted! |

China doesn't recognize international licenses (have to have a Chinese license and that's not easy for foreign nationals).
You might be able to do it through Russia. There's a ferry that you can take from Sokcho. |

A bit late but this is spot-on. Here's what my locksmith did:
(1) Brought out a set of picks, and picked the lock on my fuel cap.
(2) Held the fuel cap up to the sun and peered inside and hmmmd a little.
(3) Pulled a file and a blank key out of his pocket and filed away for a bit.
(4) Put it in the bike.. hey presto it worked.
(5) Made another copy for me
(6) Charged me $10
I guess the locks aren't all that secure. I was amazed he could do it by eye just like that.
The other option is to have them take the whole bike apart and remove the lock and replace it. I think that costs like $30 or $50 or something. |

But...I need more models!
I know you boys know some girls who ride motorcycles and scooters, so sweet talk them into striking a pose for Habitat for Humanity Sri Lanka!
Copy & Pasted from Facebook:
The theme is two fold. Females with their two-wheeled motorized vehicles (swimwear optional, but Sri Lanka IS tropical... and sex DOES sell...) and somehow incorporating a 2 colors or more combination of green, orange, gold and/or burgundy - the colors of the Sri Lankan flag.
This calendar is to raise funds for Habitat for Humanity in Nuwara Eliya and Anuradhapura. If we raise a whole slew and in fact have to order more, I'll send some to the mission in Negombo as well. A house costs about a grand.
Maybe since I sent the first message you've started fantasizing obsessively about what your photo should look like. :b If not, get to it! When it comes to location, keep in mind the feasibility of getting your bike there. How cool would the swimming hole at Oedolgae be?! But alas... no cranes!
I believe in our talented photographer (but obviously, unless you're in Jeju, our semi-pro photographer can't take your picture), but this will be a lasting monument to the hotness of chicks on bikes. Photoshop can be our friend.
The only rules are: ride has to be in the shot somewhere, you have to be in the shot somewhere and two or more of the flag colors have to be in the shot somewhere.
....And participants make a donation of 20,000won. =^_^=
The rest is on me. I believe I can get a publisher to make 250 for 2,500 each. Sell them for 10,000 and everybody's feeling good about themselves~!
I'm on a bit of a deadline to say the least and I know maaaany of us are going abroad or at least not staying on the island for the whole summer break. Photos are due September 18th.
PM me for my contact information and further details and questions. |

Assuming it's a car ferry, just .. um .. show up, pay the money, and you're set!
By the way... that's a fantastic picture there! I can definitely get behind what you're trying to do. Sign me up for one of those! If there are some ladies willing to pose but have no ride, I volunteer mine! (that may defeat the purpose though). |

I'm strapped for models, so I may have to allow it.
Hell, I'd settle for delivery girls! |

If you live in Seoul Kyobo has a couple of options which you may want to check out. |
