Korean Herald rated it as one of the Top 10 Korean flicks of '03. Has anyone seen it?
Here's the complete list:
A Tale of Two Sisters (Isn't this also a miguk porn flick??)
If You Were Me
Memories of Murder - I asked my director about this one. She said it's based on a true story. I may have misunderstood her, but apparently there is a town here in Gyonggido (near Incheon) where 17 people have been murdered over the last 20 years and they still haven't captured the killer?? She said, Don't worry - it's just prostitutes. (WTF!)
Please Teach Me English
Save The Green Planet
Singles
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter and Spring
Sweet Sex and Love
The Uninvited (a great classic Nintendo game, btw!)
Wonderful Days (most expensive Korean animated film ever made) |

Memories of Murder was very well done. Those murdered weren't prostitutes, by the way.
Singles was like a Korean version of Friends that lasted almost 2 hours. |

My friend is doing the subtitles for the Please Teach me English dvd. So I know it won't be a piece of crap like some of the other movies that go with English subtitles.
Wonder when it hits stores - should be soon. |

Memories of Murder was very good.
I haven't rented a Korean DVD with bad subtitles yet - though I can imagine some older films probably have crappy subs. That's not to say there isn't the occasional odd phrasing. |

you can never get the full intentions with subtitles.... listen to the korean and read the subtitles... there is a big difference. Watch Break Out and there is a scene where in Korean the guy says he will debowel him, take out his intestines and use them as a skipping rope. And then shortly after he says that he will drill a hole in his head and use a straw to suck out his brains. In english it was just the typical curses.
A big factor of this is cost, I'ce been told that the cost is dependant on the amount of characters. |

I'll tell you one movie that wasn't good...My Wife Is a Gangster II. I watched that on DVD last night, and felt like it wasn't even worth the DVD rental fee. Asstastic! |

Most Korean DVD sub jobs, while not western-standard - are pretty damn good.
Check out some Hong Kong Dvds and you'd agree: for a country where its English DvD market is substantially low - they put more effort and care into them than their HK counterparts. However, many HK Dvds offer English subtitles on the supplemental materials while Korean DVD supplemental materials are for full daehanmingook saram (or fluent Korean languge flunkies) only.

It was worth the rental for me, but I won't be buying it like I bought the first movie. The first one was really funny. I laughed so hard, my in-laws thought I was crazy.
About the subtitles, my friend who does them told me sometimes the translators have little control, it is the the higher ups that make the calls on leaving stuff out or not giving the right translation. |

I'm guessing your "friend" is Darcy?
