|
|
Quick question:
Where can I buy some good US beef around Seoul?
I've been out of the country for the past few months, so
have no idea about the status of US beef in Korea in
terms of sales.
Anyone know where I can pick some of this beef up?
E-Mart? Lotte Mart? Your local butcher (but sold
under the title "Korean Beef" and sold at three times the price . . .)?
Thanks! |

Aren't some of the online home shopping outfits selling US beef? Actually, that'd be a good idea. It removes the possibility of the dung throwers ruining the merchandise! |

It's taking time to get it here because they probably want to make sure the first batch is cleaner than a "hound's tooth."
It also looks like they're targeting just before Chuseok as the time period for the first big WAVE of beef to hit the stores.

If anyone on this board knows where to buy US beef, it'd be nice if they posted the location. |

A butcher at Yaksu Market has it. Don't know about it being good. Been meaning to pick some up after work, but haven't yet. If you go out the Yaksu Market exit (Yaksu, Orange line, exit 5 I thiink). Make a u-turn out the exit (very narrow sidewalk because the exit took over the sidewalk), take the first street on left (it goes off to a V, stay on the left street). Up at the next cross street is the butcher (on your right). Should take less than 1 minute from the exit to walk there. Has a banner outside partially covered up by the awning saying "Mi Guk San" something. I just looked at the meat in the window walking by, but didn't see prices. |

"i", you are the man or woman! Thanks for posting!
I went there today- Saturday morning- and bought as much as "I" could carry! Great stuff!
The adjoshi seemed THRILLED to be selling so much beef, and he cut it nice and THICK!
"i" gave good directions. Walk out exit 5 and make an immediate U-turn (on your right).
Make a left at the first street, and walk for about 2 minutes. There's an intersection, and the butcher with US beef is across the street- big sign, with "LA galbi" (can't miss it).
He charged me 1,600/100 grams for one slab and 1,700/100 grams for another.
It's STEAK time!

How were prices, wylie? Did the guy speak any English?
I'd love to interview him (although I should probably keep the location on the down-low in case he gets attacked by angry mobs of union people). |

wylies99--
Please give us a longer post about this experience. Many of us are licking our lips at the thoughts of thick slabs of U.S. beef. You said that the guy spoke the international language of money. Does that mean that you whipped out some green ones and pantomimed? Do you speak Korean? I'd love to get over there as soon as possible to show my support but worry about the communication problems.
A fellow U.S. beef carnivore,
