One of the nation's largest food makers fraudulently altered the shelf life of its imported chocolate products.

The Korean Food and Drug Administration said Thursday that Orion sold overdue products of Hershey's chocolate.

Is Orion getting advice from the Korean Convenience Store Owners of America on how to improve the bottom line?

Some nice math from the article: "The fabricated products worth 622 million won ($6,000)..."

Meanwhile I handed out this exact product to my students as rewards on numerous occasions. "Good job girls. Here, have some rotten wormy chocolate." They loved it.

It was Hershey's Miniature Special Dark- some of the worst stuff Hershey's makes.

My students love Hershey's chocolate, too- especially Cookies and Cream- that can be purchased at Costco.

Orion isn't the only company that changes expiry dates on the products, of course.

A lot of companies do that, especially now when the economy isn't so hot.

I remember when that bar in Itaewon (Nashville? Seoul Pub?) got shut down a few years back for "expired" salt or pepper or whatever it was that was alledgedly expired.

What kind of punishment will Orion see, seeing as how it is on a much larger scale? Nothing. To punish them would harm Korea's economy, and they can't have that.

In case some of you don't know, Hershey's makes some great stuff that's not available in Korea like- Mr. Goodbar, Krackel, and Reese's Peanut Butter Cups.

I may have the details mis-remembered, but essentially yes.

Some information here and here about Hershey's for your perusal. Don't forget to check out the list of manufacturing plants.

Expiry dates are generally too short these days, considering modern technology.

Chocolate won't spoil for quiet a while anyway. The fat will separate, which makes it look weird, but it's still perfectly fine to eat.
