So, my ct tried to make me sign some sort of waiver. If I don't leave Korea, I will be penalized. Sooo, can the school actually call the airline to check if you've left the country? I wasn't aware that airlines gave out such personal info. Or perhaps...they can call immigration?

Did you buy a ticket and get it refunded? If so where to and how much? Laughing

It hasn't been refunded to me yet. It's to the states for 1.7 . This sucks because I just came back from the states out of my own pocket. Do you know whether or not they can check?

Yes, public schools can check with immigration about your comings & goings.

Just your entry and exit. Immi does NOT record your destination on departure.

And airlines do not disclose info whether or not you are on a certain flight, right? Argh, had my ct not lied to me about the summer camps in the first place, I would have happily went home during the time they wanted me to!

I have a problem like that as well.
I'm finishing up my current job and bought my ticket to be refunded, but I don't know if I'm headed home/somewhere else/ or finding another teaching gig in Korea.
Funny thing is, my ticket cost 1,200,000W but my ticket says 1,980,000W since the ticket/receipt doesn't list discounts. Should I claim all of it or just what I paid? Dilemma, dilemma...

Ask yourself what you would want your employee to do if the the roles were reversed.

Report what you paid, unless you want a karma debt dogging you.

How do you get the money, cause if you stay in Korea and refund the ticket, eventually you'll have to get a plane ticket at a later time or go to another school.

the price on an airline tkt can be the retail price - if it was purchased thru an agent, often there is a price differential - what was actually paid vs the retail price.

that is, if you walked up to a counter in an airport you'd probably pay premium for a tkt whereas your travel agent can get you a better deal.

only ask for the amount paid for the refund. yes, karma is important.

that's a very bizarre situation - ? have never heard of such a thing.

however, whomever sponsors your visa IS responsible for you and can also be in trouble if you overstay your visa.

whatever the motive is, I don't think they have the right to ask you to sign such a statement - I would refuse, but that's just me.

you DO have to leave at some point - and I've actually received emails from employers where my visa was originally sponsored and later transfered letting me know immi was letting them know my visa was about to expire.

so - if they don't trust you to leave? donno - sounds like a place one wouldn't want to renew - Rolling Eyes Rolling Eyes

My visa isn't a problem. I've already amended my visa to my new employer....everything's taken care of and I did it all on my own time (never requested a day off from school). I have 3 days left at my school but technically they are no longer my visa sponsor.

It is just my ct that is the one stressing me. It is also because of him that I will not renew. Not all because of him but mostly him. He's the one I have problems with. He's just a very vindictive person and there is no way I can go through another year of that.

I hear you - sometimes not renewing signals additional grief on top of whatever reason one had for not renewing in the first place Shocked

hang in there - soon enough he will be history - just remind yourself he still has to live with himself while you get to go on and be happy elsewhere Laughing

I did the honorable thing and just asked for what I paid.
I'm just wondering if they would ask me to pay it back if I do stay but teach at another school even though my contract says I get a return ticket home.
