Anybody know the penalty or if it's a problem? Someone mentioned there being a second week of orientation.

To make a long story short, my documents got delayed by four weeks so I'm finally getting the required VISA Documents from SMOE about 1 day before my flight. Getting the VISA from my Counsulate takes 2-3 days of processing and mailing.

I can probably make it to Korea on the 26 or 27th at best.

You're probably better off asking your recruiter or contacting SMOE directly. I got an email from my recruiter late last week that another orientation was added starting Sept 1, but with no indication of if it was up to me to choose which one I wanted to attend or if this was only for people who had already negotiated starting later than the original orientation. Good luck!

There is no penalty for not going to the orientation. I was hired in March and told them I didn't want to go because it was a waste of time and they let me off, just put me in my school a week early. Don't worry about it, in fact, try to miss the orientation, it is horrible.

There is a second week of orientation (first week of September). Your best bet is to contact SMOE themselves. My recruiter didn't even have this information (or perhaps thought it was best to keep it from me who knows). Anyway, I had a problem with going to orientation in August too (a legitimate problem beyond my control) and offered to go to the 2nd week but SMOE told me I didn't have to go at all.

Give them a call and explain to them what's going on.

If you come a week (or more) late, do they adjust the start date of your contract?
