Does everyone see how popular Sony products are here?
Or even the SM5 (Basically a Nissan Maxima)
Lexus for the people who can afford them. Also all the crap merchandise made in China? Chances are You own at least 5 items made in China.

The natives forget how much misery these two countries placed on Korea.

Facts

Japan Then: Colonized Korea and tried to totally wipe out Korea's traditions, language and culture. They used thousands of Korean females as sex slaves during WWII.

Japan Now: Japanese school texts are written in such a way as to make Japan look like a perfect neighbor. There are no references to the crimes commited by the past governments.

China Then: They sent so called 100,000 volunteers to overrun Korea during the Korean war.

China Now: No freedom of speech, constant relgious persecution, technology theft the list goes on (China welcomes companies with open arms, after a few years the knowhow, ideas and technology are duplicated for a fraction of the cost. Thereby the original company can't compete and is forced to close down. Do some searching on the net there are many documented articles)

That was then, this is now.
Maybe us Americans should not buy Japanese and German products because of WW2. No, because times change, and so do people. It has nothing to do with forgetting, and everything to do with moving on

I think you need to reread the post. I gave two examples of each country then and now.

Are you suggesting trade sanctions? It's not even clear if they work to change the current behaviour of countries ( see Iraq ), so what good would they be for something that happened ages ago, pure punishment? I don't think Korea is big enough to hurt Japan or China by withdrawing trade, and what exactly would it achieve?

I can only assume that you've never brought these topics up with Koreans. Trust me, they haven't forgotten anything.

ffl007,

According to that logic: No more trading with China for any nation.
No more buying petrolium from the Middle East.
No more trading with these nations...

Wow thats revolutionary my man...

This isn't all true, FFL. Korea is just starting to open up to Japan, and probably has the worst protectionist economy in regards to trade in the world. The Japanese products that might be made in China or Chinese products altogether, unless coming from Taiwan, are probably not trustworthy and are actually a part of a large network of piracy that's robbing consumers blind.

Do you have any other examples except for the one book that caused a huge uproar a couple years ago because the book basically gave a one page glossed-over account of Japan in Korea? Please note that the media, as a general rule, forgot to mention that this one book was written for use with mentally handicapped students and the entire book was written in such a fashion.

The regular books go into greater detail over known events and some raised issues.

You're forgetting the more than a million conscripts who were shipped over against their will to overrun Korea during the Korean war.

My research shows that companies have done that, and are sued on a regular basis because of it. It's software duplication that's a far more serious problem than patent infringement or hardware duplication. But ya, China is a messed up clusterbang. But they are taking steps in the right direction and have for a few years now. While they are still nuts over Taiwan and Internet censoring, they have made nice sounds by saying that they are continually overhauling the electoral system in China and slowly increasing the number of government jobs that are elected and are hoping to have an actual elected federal government by the next generation. In the end, maybe everything will be all right.

I understand the point you are trying to make, but your underlying statements of facts are flawed, you're ignoring how Japan has already paid Korea a cash settlement over all that has happened, treaties have been signed, and ignoring the many positive impacts Japan had on Korea. If I had a fight with Steve in the sixth grade that he started, and then he apologized the next day and bought me an ice cream cone, should I still hate him forever?

How lovely! A Christmas troll!

Joe wil layeth the smacketh down upon ye ONCE - and you're best to let it sink into your protoplasm:

YOU'RE WRONG.

KOREANS HAVE HARMED THEMSELVES WORSE THAN ANY OTHER FOREIGN NATION IN ITS HISTORY - AND THEY CONTINUE TO DO SO TO THIS DAY.

KOREA IS KOREA'S OWN WORST ENEMY.

KOREA HAD HURT THE WORLD MORE THAN SOMONE LIKE YOU WOULD ACKNOWLEDGE.

You'll find little sympathy here.

Class dismissed.

You can now ride the special bus for all eternity.

Joe

Sorry, seems to me the guy loves Korea and hates everybody else. Did I read the op wrong? He was saying that the whole country has been wronged by the world. S/he obviously feels an affinity for the place.
