I am currently traveling in the Philippines. My family will be sending my criminal background check. Can I go to the US Embassy in the Philippines and have an affidavit attached to it or is this option only for those in Korea?
I'm hoping someone has tried this already, say for Thailand, and can provide their personal experience. Is there a particular government official in Korea that I should contact that would know the answer? |

I just went through the whole E-2 process in Bangkok. I did not go to the embassy for certification. I imagine the process would be the same. I had my family forward the background check to the appropriate place in my state for the Apostille. Why not have them do this on your behalf? |

No you cannot get this affidavit at an embassy outside of Korea.
I tried to do this for two teachers that currently work at our hagwon...they were coming from Prague.
I incorrectly made the same assumption and told them to visit their US Embassy in Prague.
When we submitted their documents...their affidavits were denied...we were told this affidavit is only accepted from embassies located within Korea.
We had to make a trip to Seoul to acquire an affidavit locally. Don't waste your time with obtaining affidavits outside of Korea.
With that being said...if you're a first time E2 applicant in Korea...you're going to want to learn more about the Korean Council for University Education. If you're not going into the public school system here...the KCUE verification process is the only way to bypass the interview requirement.
Hope that saves you time!!! |
