Which God? Allah? Yahweh? Jehova? Brahman? Zeus?
I need to know before I shop and choose the best one. |

I assume these same people don't have health insurance and don't go the hospital when they get sick. Otherwise, you know, they would be hypocrites. |

I think many religions with different beliefs talk about miracles. You have the Hindus, Christians, and Jews etc.... They all talk of having miracles. I am not sure it really matters scientifically which religion you believe in, but the belief in getting healed helps a person, in many cases, get healed. |

Frankly, though some may view me as very empirical in some ways, I am Platonic in my thinking, I base things on experience not necessarily on the empiricism de jour. I do believe in spirituality. Sometimes, I see things happening before they happen, and in some cases I have no rational explanation. However, that may be explained by the idea that we may not know how to explain scientifically how human beings and energy relates. Our minds are what we use to increase our spirituality. There are so many people who had a lot of faith and ended up walking out of a hospital after being told they would never be able to walk, and rationally those doctors were right. I am not arguing for one particular faith. I am saying there is something, in my opinion, to spirituality, but religion can be a very big problem. Religion leads us to condemn others and to say our path is better than that of another and seeks to rationalize oppressing others. I am saying it is possible that the ancient Greeks could have had a valid spirituality if we believe faith can help heal you.
Having a positive attitude does count. If you want, you can view faith as having a positive attitude. |

Why am I not surprised by your response, JMO?
Do you believe in anything? |

Could you link to some examples of these people who were told they would never walk again. Are there examples of people with no faith, who regained their health?

I believe in you Regi! You are the bed rock on which I build my life.
Obviously JFKs faith was deficient or else the bullet would have missed.
That of course is the nub. Once you believe God intervenes and heals people, you start to wonder...why didn't he heal that guy..or that girl?
When the bus stops on the side of the cliff..people say thank god..when it goes over, using the same logic, God let it happen. Of course people aren't very logical. |

Many also believe in the super healing powers of chiropractors, but I'm not buying into that horseshit either. |

[I mean for example you have heard of Chinese healers using their hands and Reiki, I am sure. Often, the spirit world has to do with energy to some extent. In order for healing to occur, there is a change in energy and matter. Right?

[I cannot do that. You've heard of Jesse Owens being told he wouldn't be able to, but I believed he would. Of course, you do not have to believe in God. However, some kind of belief, I believe, is useful. Recently, a study said that being happy adds years to your life. Often being happy ties into believing in good things can happen to you and having a sense of optimism, and being content.

Actually, faith does involve positive thinking. As you may know, the Old Testament has the word "As a man thinketh...." The New Testament has Jesus (Yeshua) saying that we shouldn't worry about tomorrow, have faith in God taking care of us the present and to, and, yes, faith does involve having a positive attitude. |

Sorry. I thought you meant faith was defined as having a positive attitude. obviously it isn't. Whether faith involves having a positive attitude is up for debate i suppose. Are credulous people more positive? Hard to tell.
Could you link to those people who recovered from paralysis through the power of faith, after doctors had given up on them(and presumably sto treating them)?
Also what is your view on the point i made above..if God intercedes and heals people, does he also not intercede on others behalf? In other words does God pick and choose?
following that logic, is God responsible(as in i would be responsible if i saw something i could stop, but didn't) for people's death or pain?
Does God look down on(for example) pedophilia in action and choose not to intercede because the girl does not have sufficient faith?
Believing in an intercessionary God involves a lot of cognitive dissonance, if you want to believe that God is good. |
