He's got to be cheating, right? Ever since the Landis superhuman mountain stage in the Tour De France I'm skeptical of any superhuman performance.
Or how about Usain Bolt easing up for the last 20 meters in the 100m and setting new world record. Isn't anyone else a little suspicious? |

He passed his drug tests.
Strong deviations in human ability are hardly uncommon. |

| Why would you say he is cheating? He broke a record set by Mark Spitz some 30 years ago. Mark Spitz had a fraction of the technology to rely on. I am actually surprised it took someone so long to break this record. Good on Michael but I still say Mark Spitz is the man for swimming with a mustache. |

You have evidence that he is cheating? Or, merely speculating because he did so well?
You Canadian, by chance? |

| Canadians have a habit of cutting the tallest stalk. This is what you were doing in the OP. |

No, he doesn't have to be cheating. He could just be a supremely gifted athlete who worked very hard to achieve his goal.
Automatic skepticism soon develops into cynicism. It's not a pretty sight. |

| Thank-you for that unflattering generalization. Of course you know sweeping generalizations are usually reflections of a mediocre mind. Weasel-like and mediocre, you know you can do better. |

| China has earned around 25% more gold medals than my own country the USA. Do I think China is cheating? No, I just think like everything else in the "Bush Years" my fellow Americans got lazy and fat when it comes to winning in sports (and economics). As far as I am concerned Michael Phelps is a true American. He eats garbage all day (pancakes, pizza, BLTs...12,000 calories a day) but still gets the job done. |

| As far as I'm aware he has always been dominant, at every level. He doesn't have that tell tale sign of having a wierd career path or a second peak...so evidence up or stop your griping little man. |

| Isn't 12,000 calories a day is a dead give away? How much food is that? He can eat his own body weight everyday? |

No.
You have to burn 2,500 calories to lose a pound of fat. The man probably exercises 4 or more hours a day. 12,000 calories is nothing. |

| thats six times the normal guy. the normal guy is not an Olympic athlete. I wouldn't say its too different from other swimmers. If this is all you are going on ..I don't know..maybe you have some personal issue. Did he bang your sister? |

He trains 5-7 hours a day. I'd be hungry too. |
