so i have been offered a job beginning immediately (effective next week).
my hogwan has said that they will work with me a little so that i may begin teaching at the new job while i finish my final 3 weeks with them. they also say that this is illegal, so if there is any trouble, its on me.
i have heard that its NOT illegal as long as you get permission from your visa sponsor (obviously my old job). i dont really want to lose my return ticket (or cash payment), severance, AND pension....
please, tell me what you know. i'm freaking out a little and i have very little time... |

It might not be worth it to get it added on to your visa for just three weeks.
I hope you can trust your present school and owner. They might be happy to let you do the dual work. But the can always prove to be mean later. Say you wokred illegally and say they will not pay you.
Heck you might just have to quit your job three weeks to go and forgo your bonus.
I also hope the job you are risking this for is good! |

You can probably do this legally if both employers are okay with it. (If your old employer is a public school and your new employer is a hagwon you may not be able to do it.)
You need to add your new employer as an additional place of employment for the last three weeks of your old contract. You may have to fudge some paperwork so that your total hours are still under 40 (ie, you need a three week contract with the new employer that stating an hourly rate and a schedule that only shows 10-15 hours per week), but the chances of getting caught working too many hours are low. The cost for an additional workplace is 60,000 won.
Then, during the last week at your old job, you need to file a change of employment and extension of visa (90,000 won) to transfer to the new place of employment.
There are all the health check and crc issues with this you will need to check out.
The only problem here is that to make it legal, you will need the new employer to give you a three week part-time contract followed by a year long contract for the transfer.
To avoid any issues with getting severence from the old employer you need to make sure you don't do you transfer until the old contract is up (just do an additional place of employment for the overlap.)
That's what I can tell you from my experiences.... Someone else may have more info or details... |

so i suppose i should contact immigration to learn about adding an additional place of employment. the new job isn't holding my hand through the visa like the old one did...

Here's the website for addition/change of workplace. This is what you will need for the addition. Beware, you may also need a current health check and crc for this process.

It doesn't seem to list the "required documents". From what I remember, you will need a permission letter from the old employer, contract from the new employer (for part-time 3 weeks), new employer's business certificate/registration, a schedule that shows when you work for the old employer (it needs to not conflict with the "part-tim work" and I believe the total hours cannot exceed 40 per week but you may want to call on that). This is a 60,000 won fee.
For the transfer, you will need to do a change (as opposed to the addition you did above) and an extension. Here is the extension web site.

This is 30,000 won for the extension and 60,000 won for the change.
From what I remember you need the new contract, visa sponsorship form from the new employer, the new business registration and a letter of release from the old employer.
Again, not sure about the health check and crc. From what I understand, if you turn them in for the addition, you shouldn't have to turn them in again three weeks later. (My friend did an addition and then an extension about a month later and they didn't require the documents again because they were so recent.)
