What are the best beaches and rivers to play in during the summer?
This year I seemed to have hit the jack pot.
Daechon Beach - about an hour or two from Seoul, great sandy beach, when the tides out it's fanatastic for playing frisbee or beach soccer, shallow beach so you can swim easily if you're not that good of a swimmer and never have to worry about rocks in the water, great beach life - clam bakes under the trees, burgers at Lotteria (the Papriak Burger is mighty fine), beer at the GS 25. Great little beach. A little crowded but not as silly as Haeundae.
Doekjok Do (Sapeori beach) - great ferry ride from either Daebudo (Ansan) or Incheon, great beach that is very similar to Daechon. Samgyupsal BBQs next to the beach, night long parties next to the sea. Slight amount of mud, but very nice for swimming and enjoying the day.
Samcheok (East Sea) - a little far, but worth the drive. Plenty of beaches along the coast, plenty of room to find a nice uncrowded spot. The tided doesn't go out as far as on the west coast, but the waves are a little bigger and really fun to play in. Stay in a cheap little min bak near the sea shore. Very nice and peaceful.
Jaebudo (west sea) - very muddy, but loads of fun. Take a road aong the sea floor during low tide, play in the mud, enjoy a nice sandy beach, eat shell fish or salted shrimp barbie. |

They close in about 2 weeks. The good thing about this is that the weather can often still be pretty hot or warm. This means you can go to the beach, go swimming, mess around or whatever you want to do without either crowds nor whistle-happy lifeguards ruining your fun!
The shower rooms and stuff might be locked up though which kind of sucks. |

I know of only one beach along the east Coast that closes. Here in Gangneung there are beaches open all year long. |
