some of the drugs are hard to test for. Which is why they keep blood samples and test them as detection for drugs improves. Really, considering how fast science improves these days. You will get caught doping sooner or later.

It's not boasting if you can back it up.

I seem to recall the Jamaican team filing a complaint because of the amouts of tests (4 in one week, I think).

yep.

I just think he's an outstanding athlete. Just look at his build. Sprinters aren't usually so tall, but he has the muscle mass in the right places to go with it. he's basically shaped like a springbok.

I did sense shades of Ben Johnson when he burst ahead.

But then again, Donovan Bailey was clean and he put Bolt in the shade in the Boasting and Gloating events.

Today one would naive to not at least consider the possibility of doping in events such as the Olympics' 100 metres. However, as pointed out above, Usain Bolt has a history of producing world-class results.

And the IOC has certainly been paying attention to Jamaica's successes, and not just at these Games:

"THE medical chief of the Jamaican sprint factory, Dr Herb Elliott, has rubbished suspicions that drug use may be behind Usain Bolt's incredible win in the 100 metres in 9.69 seconds, declaring the victory a product of knowledge."
'Don't patronise us, says Jamaican chief'

My feeling - not discounting the beneficial effects of the yams that his home region is famous for! - is that the man is just amazingly good!

He should make it a double with a 200 meters win to go along with his 100 meter win

It's possible to create slight varients of steroids that are more difficult to detect. I'm no scientist but I did once watch a documentary on how it works. It involves the complicity of highly trained scientists; the fact that the Jamaican team might not be able to afford them is about the only thing that makes me think they may possibly be clean.

Also, look at the men versus women. The top male sprinters are getting faster while the top female sprinters are getting slower. The only woman who's come close to Joyner's 1988 record, Marian Jones, was also found to be cheating. Now suddenly, the top three female sprinters, and the only ones posting sub-11-second times, are all Jamaicans. Does that suggest different trends in training or different trends in cheating?

He did. And once again, he casually jogged over the line ahead of the field. When you have the physique of a racehorse, there ain't no need for dope.

Six times or so, I read. Clean until proven guilty.

I've heard there test for over 4,000 banned substances at these Olympics. Well, I'd be inclined to bet that there are at least 4,001 substances which enhance performance.

Of course he's boasting...in the 100m he turned around before he crossed the finish line. I don't get down on him for it though. Is it unsportsmanlike? Eh...maybe. Whatever though, he's just that good, and it's amazing to watch a freak of nature like that run around a track.

Then again, my favorite baseball player is Manny Ramirez, and nobody boasts more than he does.

I'd believe Bolt's clean long long long before I believe the Chinese gymnasts are older than 14.

From following strength-related sports for a few years, my impression is that practically all top strength athletes and most top speed athletes use drugs. Why should they not? There are various ways to beat the tests, even if you don't have the connections to get positive results covered up like Carl Lewis.

As to why female athletes are getting slower mentioned upthread, the answer is obvious. Because of the attention to now given to drugs, they can't take anything that has a blatantly masculinizing effect on their appearance. They are therefore limited to anavar and non-steroid drugs.

If the US misses out on a gold medal then the other competitor must be on steroids, underage or cheating in some other way. It's the only logical conclusion. There's no way another country's athlete could beat a US athlete through training or superior physical prowess alone.
