|
|
I'm sorry I am ranting about this again, as I've brought up this topic before, but upon my return from summer vacation (Korea is much better when you can leave it for a while)
I've had to wash clothes, and once again, the lack of a center agitator post just makes me wonder how is it physically possible for their washing machines to actually wash clothes?
maybe it's just my machine, I'm having it checked, but I don't think so.
I remember "old school" hand washing.. it relies on FRICTION, right?
just like the center post agitator creates TURBULENCE, ergo water friction.
the Korean impeller creates neither.. it's just amazing watching that crappy little thing do a little swirl one way.. then swirl the other way..
(and that's on the "strong wash" setting)
you can dump an entire box of detergent in there with that effing "swirl" and you'll barely get any suds. Try putting in too much in a US/European machine with a center post agitator and watch what happens!
that to me is the proof in the pudding, right there.
Korean air drying, cardboard stiff issues aside (another super annoying thing since I despise ironing)...
WTF?
how can I wash my effing clothes!!!! ?? |

Items needed:
5 Gallon Bucket (w/ lid)
Toilet plunger
box cutter
Instructions:
cut small round hole in top of 5 gallon bucket lid the size of the plunger stem. Place lid on top of the bucket with stem of plunger running through the hole. voila! presto! home made washing machine. |

very clever and inventive.
and I am sure it'd be more effective than the turds sitting and slowly "swirling" in my Korean washing machine.
but I'm not about to do any manual labor to wash my clothes.
know of a good and cheap swirler?
god how I miss the good old Latin American days when for chump change, many a local older (or younger actually) woman would do your entire clothes load, and return them all, pressed, neatly folded.. nice smelling.
it's almost worth it to rejoin the rat race to earn enough cash to have someone do that CRAP for you.
but not quite. Fact is, in the US I was able to effectively wash and dry clothes with almost minimal effort.
but in Korea, it may be one of my top things of "things that drive me up the effing wall". |

I feel for you... but...
....you have turds floating in your washing machine??
Sounds like other issues should be handled before you blame the machine. |

My machine won't run while the lid is open. Maybe yours is broken. |

the visual effect of the dirty clothes swirling in the dirty water is akin to turds in the water... hence the metaphor.
draz, my machine wouldn't let me either but later in the "cycle"..
anyways.. these machines are to me like things from outer space. zero intuitive things about them.
I'm going to have mine looked at. |

if it works half as advertised, it'd be worth it.
are you also having some "issues" with washing clothes in Korea? |

Yeah. I live in a 4th-floor walk-up and the laundry room is a closet on the first floor. Said laundry room has one washing machine. That's a bit of a pain usually but I'm stuck using crutches right now so it's even worse. I'm supposed to be off the crutches in two weeks! |

The previous teacher left a washing machine in my apartment. There is a hole broken in the top of it. I never understood why, but thanks to this thread, I now know the reason for the hole.
Quite obviously, it was so he could poop in it and watch the turds float without the washing machine shutting off due to a raised lid.
Many thanks for helping me solve this mystery!

Most dry cleaners offer laundry service, too. It sounds like it would be worth a little extra money for less stress in you life! |
