First off, he does have technology on his side.
To be fair, pre-Olympics there was a report about a non-testable drug floating around the Olympics this year, which isn't exactly an indictment of him so much as everybody breaking records. |
I haven't seen that...but the technology that goes into the swimming suits and the swimming pools helps to create much better conditions than Mark Spitz had back in the 70s. |

Sorry bro, most people who pass their tests are doping. It's the way it works. If anybody has any questions I know all the ins and outs to passing the tests. Ask away.
By the way, nobody should hate on Phelps for doping. Everyone else at the top level is doping too. It's just the way it works when you can either make 30 million in endorsements, or alternatively, zero.

"12,000 calories is nothing" is one of the most insane comments I've heard with regard to nutrition in my life. |

You mean, most people who are doping pass their tests. Right? Or, you believe that "most" Olympians are doping? |

Of course he does bro. He has EPO-delta, IGF-1, hGH, and glucocorticoids on his side. He can also take just enough testosterone to be under the legal limit and keep his testosterone to epistestosterone ratio under 1:4.
All Olympic athletes are just under the legal "limits" of certain hormone indicators, that hardly ever occur naturally, especially in hard training athletes (the more you train the more your hemocrit and testosterone drop). Yet they all sit exactly underneath an artificially chosen number chosen by WADA? It's silly... of course you dope at the top level. There is no way to be at the top level without doping, because of the phenomenal effect some drugs like EPO achieve. |

Most Olympians, in the athletic style sports, are doping. And, unless they're stupid, they pass their tests. They've got millions of dollars on the line, and it's quite easy. I'm just a student and amateur athlete and I've figured it out by myself--they can hire people to do it for them. Like Lance did.

| Well, I hope you aren't right but I'm not so naive to believe that the money wouldn't motivate me towards a few jabs. I'm on Team Phelps, either way. |

Just pulling a quote from that article:
| Quote: |
| And last summer, several riders were dismissed from the Tour de France on charges of using banned substances. |
Cyclists "in the know" always have a discussion about this stuff. We think either the guys get framed by a competitor (ie, they pay off the opposing team's doctor to give the guy a higher shot of EPO or whatever than he would need) or the guys just made stupid mistakes, if they get caught.
Because everybody in the circuit is doping.
"Leave me in peace; everybody takes dope."
Jacques Anquetil
"Everybody dopes. Good guys, like Tyler, dope... and bad guys, Like Lance, dope" there are plenty of good people who dope."
Prentice Stephan, Ex USPS Team doctor, current Slipstream doctor.
Doping simply can never stop, as long as there's money and glory, which are inherent in the sports. |

Phelps dopes but that doesn't mean he's bad or not a hard worker. You need exceptional hard work to be at the Olympic level. He's competing against doped up people too so the playing field is level.
Doping does not mean you are not a hard worker, and I hate when people dismiss other people's accomplishments and hard work because of it (you didn't say that). Steroids, EPO, GH etc allow you to train longer and harder than the natural, feeble un-drug-assisted human body. If anything, they are tools that allow you to work harder. |

The OP is not the first to suggest that Phelps must be cheating because he is the best at what he does:

Phelps emphatically denies doping allegations American swimmer says he has the results to prove he's clean
By NBCOlympics.com staff report
Posted Friday, August 15, 2008 10:50 AM ET
In six events, Michael Phelps has set six world records en route to earning six gold medals.
The American swimmer's superhuman performance has amazed many, but given the number of athletes who recently have been linked to doping, questions about how Phelps has produced such fast times are inevitable
Following his win in the 200m IM, Phelps emphatically denied using any performance-enhancing drugs.
"Anybody can say whatever they want, but I know I'm clean," Phelps said. "People can question it all they want, but the facts are the facts. I have the results to prove it."
He is taking part in "Project Believe," a U.S. Anti-Doping Agency volunteer initiative where athletes provide additional testing that is more frequent and more sophisticated than the usual regime of tests.
Phelps can tie Mark Spitz's 1972 record of seven gold medals at a single Olympic Games when he takes to the pool for the 100m butterfly on Day 8 in Beijing. His biggest rival in the event may be his teammate, Ian Crocker, who has held the world record in the event for more than three years.
After that event, he just has one more race -- a relay -- scheduled. If everything goes according to his plan, he will earn his record eighth gold medal in Beijing.
The Associated Press contributed to this report.

Sadly, athletes now have to anticipate this sort of skepticism and bend over backwards to prove doubters wrong. Of course, most doubters don't doubt because of evidence. Due to something lacking in themselves, they hate to see greatness in others. They will go on doubting no matter the lack of evidence. |

| Nice try buddy. If someone disagrees with your point of view it's because of some sort of shortcoming in their personality. That's convenient for you isn't it? |

These technologies are evenly distributed, everyone has the opportunity to use them. |
