I don't want to bother the mods with topic spam about my podcast, so I'm going with MMT's suggestion of having one updated master thread that people can check on.
Here's my site, for those of you who haven't been there: http://www.themidnightrunner.com
Another new podcast is up:
Joshua from KOTESOL gives us ideas on how to get out and get involved in different organizations in South Korea. In addition to discussing KOTESOL, Joshua talks about meeting interesting people through Toastmasters, and The Royal Asiatic Society.
Also, I will be interviewing Gina Agency today about insurance in Korea. Any questions you would like asked, please post!

For Tiger Beer the difference between Japan and Korea in terms of how westerners are treated by the general population and also how they are treated in an employment area, hogwons, public and private....
Also how do westerner's attitudes differ between Japan and Korea in the ex-pat communities.

This is a good idea. I was not happy with the previous system of spamming the board. |

Looking forward to #2.
A good question for Tiger Bear is, how does Japan differ from Korea in terms of long term settlement strategies? How easy it is to settle in Japan for a long time as opposed to Korea, and how do the rewards of such differ?
I guess this question might be something he has witnessed more than something he had himself experienced. |

Don't listen to Ya-ta Boy; he doesn't know what spam is. When you are the only source of a service (in this case an informative podcast) for a community board based around the very same subject, it's not spam to let people know about it. Spam would be anything commercial or unhelpful to the community as a whole. A free podcast - not spam.
Here's a basic spam/not spam checklist:
Is it directly related to the community? [O]
Is it something that the board itself or another member is not providing at present? [O]
Is it free and easy to access? [O]
Check off all three of those and it's not spam. Something not related to the community, something that piggybacks something the site already provides or something commercial (some party or other event) and it's spam. |

OLE' STOMPERS Questions
- What kind of hassle did you have to go through to open/buy a bar in Korea?
- With your experience running said bar, have you noticed a trend in your cliental (mostly young folks, older folks, expats only, mixture, etc.)
- Do you see any form of growth in business during any particular time of year? (American, European, or Korean holidays as well)
TIGERBEAR Questions
- In terms of TigerBear's stay in Japan and his stay in Korea how would he/she rate the criminal justice system? (i.e. police, civil services)
Example (for the above question):
1. Person is robbed in Korea, police file a report and pretty much sit on their duffs not doing anything when the same thing happens in Japan how do the local police deal with it.
2. How does he/she rate the differences when having to file a complaint against an employer for misconduct, taking issues to the labor board, etc.
- How would he/she rate housing? Better or worse in either places
- In terms of friendliness which country (according to TigerBear) makes you feel less like a foreigner?
- In terms of adjustment from your home country (assuming you went to Korea from your home country likewise for Japan) which country took the least amount of time to adjust to.
- Was there a difference between each country in terms of culture shock (that is to say that you went through a period like this)
- In your opinion which country has a better night life (I'd imagine Japan, but I may be bias)
- Depending upon your experience in both countries, which country was more supportive of you in your effort to teach English (as a whole)? |

I'll have to hit Mith up for that after this week. He runs Galbijim, right? Would be interesting to hear how that venture is going.
Just added a daily news update. Am going to try to add a news update every morning by 8am. My hope is to add different "student reporters" daily after classes begin Sept. 1.
Suggestions welcome. |

YES!!!!
I never considered posts related to the podcast to be spam. Actually, I am happy to read them. Looking foward to the Bar owner interview. |

Ditto. In fact, far from being spam, Bass has invested a bit of his own money in setting these podcasts up, simply because it's something he enjoys to do. |

It's a great benefit to the foreign community in Korea. One thing that would improve everything about every aspect of life for foreigners in Korea would be a way for us to unite and communicate with each other constructively.
What Bass is doing looks to be the beginning of that process (one which should have started a long time ago). |

hahaha, owner of ole stompers, man that guy is great, which one, bald one or older one with greyish hair? Might see them this weekend if im in seoul, 2 friendly guys who own a great bar.
can't think of too many questions at the mo, but....
Do they actually aim to appeal to foreigners, or does a bar owned by a foreigner simply become a 'foreigner bar' by default. Suppose its different for them being based in itaewon.
How do they overcome bad spells? If they don't pull the crowds in, what is their secret in a small community which is constantly changing- advertising, drinks promos, bands etc.
When I met him he said he was thinking of serving breakfasts- something thats hard to get in Korea- What difficulties is he expereincing in organising this, or what difficulties does he predict- costs, extra staff, decent food supplys etc.
Do you have much trouble in the bar, i.e fights etc, and if they happen, what ways do you deal with them?
What bars in itaewon do you see as being similar, i.e taking away the stompers crowd?
thanks |

Stompers Interview is UP:
The owner of Ole' Stompers in Itaewon discusses his foreign-owned bar, his feelings on "blood money", and more. Hear what it's like for a foreigner to run a bar in Itaewon. Dwayne also discusses the changes on "the hill" in Itaewon.
