So, people have asked several times about buying a US 360 and bringing it here, and more specifically, what about RRoD service?

My 360 ringed about a week ago. After contacting (having a Korean contact) Microsoft in Korea I was told that US 360's can't be serviced in Korea, I would have to mail it to Japan. What a pain.

Since I didn't have anything to lose I tried a trick that a guy I play online with told me before my unit ringed. His ringed and he wrapped the unit in a couple of towels and let it run for about half-an hour, then cool down. Problem solved. Sounds risky, but what the hell.

I did it once, and while it did get rid of the red rings, it still locked up after being on for only about five minutes. I suspected that I hadn't let it get hot enough. I had only used one towel and could still feel some heat coming out of the fan vent. Last night I wrapped it up again, paying special attention to the fan area, and voila! It worked! I was able to play COD4 for the first time in a week.

I can only guess that it must have gotten hot enough to melt the solder and reset the chip or something. Anyone else have luck with this fix? I'm hoping it is enough to hold me over until Nov. when I can get back to the US and trade my unit in for a new one at Best Buy (a 360 is the only thing I would have ever considered buying the extended replacement warranty on). Hopefully, the Jasper chip will be in circulation by then.
