Hi,
I am moving my family back to the states in October and I am going to be buying my wife a new laptop next week. I am leaving my desktop here for her mother and I will build a new one when I get there. It's time anyway.
I have been told that laptop brands are somewhat important. I have a good idea what kinda specs I am looking for but are there brands that are more trustworthy than others? I have budgeted a million but I would like to spend less on the laptop and save the money for when I build my new beast. She needs it for applications, surfing, movies, and watching tv on the internet. So I figure I could get her something that will do the job for a while for about 800k. |

| There won't be that much difference in the prices. And we need it before we leave. I am pretty sure that I will be able to get a good bargain. What brands do you suggest? |

Unless you need a Korean windows/keyboard you will save 20-40% by getting it in the States.
The brand is really irrelevant (among the major brands). Just don't get some no-name brand. The chipsets are all the from the same manufacturers and the HDDs and other hardware (video, etc) are all OEM as well.
It is all a matter of your budget and how close to the bleeding edge you want to be.

I just bought a laptop 2 weeks ago and my budget was a 1 mill. I wanted a 12" or smaller laptop. I ended up spending 1.1 but could've got something a little cheaper but there was always soemthing I wasn't happy with - the other thing I didn't want to do was buy a no-name.
Anyhow I got Compaq Presario B1248tu
core 2 duo 2.2ghz
2gb ram
160gb hdd
shared video (but I don't need anything else since I don't play games) |

| Get it in the states. Here you will get a korean/English keyboard, preinstalled Korean software and multimedia tools, Korean menus in the start-up screen and bootleg XP. I'm speaking from experience. |

| I should have given a bit more background info. This computer is going to be primarily for my wife and she is Korean. So we need the English/Korean keyboard and the Korean software. |
