I really find myself missing Korea lately.

I have an alright job here back in Canada, but nothing to really brag about. But lately all I can think about was how easy it all was in Korea, and about all the food I miss, etc. Maybe two years wasn't enough.

Anyone who has left been through that? How long did it take to get over this feeling, or did you just end up caving and go back?

I lived in Canada in until I was 25 and in Vancouver which is a nice place. I have tried to move back many times. I find it to be so boring in Canada and something about the people there

I just don't find that interesting. Canadian's think Canada is so special and have a passive aggresive way of being.

You get taxed up the ying yang and there is a rule for everything. I felt more free living in China under their so called evil government than I did living in Canada.

I really hate running into people who talk about Tim Horton's and stuff like that. Don't get me wrong Canada is a nice it's just that I dont find it that exciting.

It's a big world and there are many places to explore other than Canada.

I don't feel any desire to go back to Canada. It's kind of disturbing, actually. I should want to, right?

I feel the same way. I don't ever miss Canada, not a bit. But I lived there for almost 30 years, so I figure I just got bored of the same stuff all the time, as well as having to pay tax on everything and live in an expensive country.

Do other ex-pats feel the same way about their countries? I know I've read lots of comments from Americans who say they will never return, which always surprised me. Don't know if I've heard that from Ozies, Zealies, or Brits.

I would suppose those who want to stay in Korea don't have very strong attachments to family. Just going to Korea for a year has me feeling guilty about abandoning my family and my aging parents. I think it would be the first thing to make me abandon Korea even if I wanted to stay long-term.

Is it the spitting, hoking, men yelling for no reason at the top of their lungs, making random animal grunts, the death stares or bald-faced rudeness that you miss?
Maybe its the daily fight to keep your dignity and sense of sanity in the face of stone-age cretins and wildly unpredictable, bizarrely retarded behaviour. Maybe you miss the challenge.

That's not a fair thing to say at all. I love my family very much and call them every week but I love to travel and live in Asia. If someone has a traveller's spirit then there's nothing left to do but travel.

And SS I was in your spot exactly. After Taiwan, I swore I'd never live abroad again and two years later here I am in Korea again but for the long haul now.

Actually it's like an addiction. When I'm here in Korea I think about how great Canada is and when I'm in Canada I think about how great Asia is. Hopefully I'll get over it.

Also as another poster said, Canadians think Canada is so great but really they have no idea because they've never been out of it. It's so dull.
