Hi

Please can someone help me as I ma stressing out! I ma renewing my contract, everything is coming together fine with all the paperwork etc.

My passport expires April 09, I talked with the British Embassy and they said I could go to immigration with my new passort when I get one and just transfer the visa...

Anyway I have around 3 weeks til my visa expires and I have been told today that I will need a new passport beore renewing, I was under the impression I could use my current passport until March then I would apply for a new one.

If I do need a new passport before I extend, do you know if you can get passports on the day at the British Embassy in Seoul? I know in London you can but not sure here and it doesn't say on the website.

If anyone has any help that would be great

Thanks

I can't say for certain, but I'm pretty confident that your passport must be valid for at least 6 months when you get a VISA. If it's valid until April 09, you would be OK.

However, if Immi says you can't get it, you're SOL and have to get a new one.

As far as the British Embassy...I'm not sure.

But to give you a similar example....my girlfriend had to acquire a new passport from the US Embassy recently...and we were blown away at how quick the process was.

From the day we went in...to the day she received it by Korean courier...was a grand total of 4 business days.

The US Embassy also offers same-day service...we went in the morning...they said we could pick up the new passport later that afternoon at 3:30.

Give your embassy a call...see if they offer a similar service. Good luck!!

My passport, by coincidence, also expires april 9 next year. I renewed my visa last week no problem. Maybe try again & get a less grumpy immi official?

The passport's expiry date must be at least 6 months post contract.

No doubt there is a reason.

Will wonders never cease? The American government offering a service quickly and efficiently? Somewhere, a career bureaucrat is weeping.....

They need to be quick with replacing passports these days. If you lose yours, you'll need a replacement pretty fast that is also machine-readable. Besides, they'd need to cancel your lost passport's strip so no one else can use it. I'm pretty damn sure THAT won't take a week.

I'd think turning in an expired one and getting a replacement would be even quicker.

The embassies probably have some sort of machine that can whip out a new passport, complete with strip, in an hour...maybe even mere minutes. It shouldn't be that hard to make a replacement or a new one.

I renewed my British passport last month. It takes about a week or so, and the staff are very helpful.
