Naw my bargirl has lots of money. I think she must get a cut of the takings or something.

Laughing Laughing Laughing Too afraid to ask her how she makes all that cash?
Dude...if you choose to get with a ho, you have to accept what they do for a living.
either way...by sheer odds, of all the numerous guys she meets, theres always going to be someone better come along and steal her away from you.

You also know how much a regular female bartender earns? I know one place where they earn 400,000 a month, with 3 days off a month. I am friends with a girl who works in another bar and she earns 2,000,000 a month. She also gets provided with an apartment. These girls work the same hours for the same work, but one place pays more than 4x as much. Bizarre.

I bet the work ain't exactly the same... you sure your friend's bar doesn't offer extra services?

The sex industry reaches into so many places in this country, bars, coffee shops, barber shops, norae bangs, etc..., gotta wonder how the brothels can still compete. Shocked

Don't date women if they work in such an industry, sooner or later(soon) they will end up having sex for money. End of story.

Hahaha "dating a bar girl" That's really funny stuff.

Almost as funny as this:

Bar Girl 10 Commandments

1. At the end of the week, specifically Friday and Saturday, many locally employed walking ATM machines will come to your bar, choose carefully! Some have money, but others do not! If he is wearing a suit and tie, check that the tie is not a Pratunam special and check that he isn't wearing trainers.
If he is, forget him because he is most likely an English teacher, and they will only give you peanuts, if they give you anything at all.

2. No matter how fat and ugly he is, no matter how bad he may smell, no matter how drunk he is, make sure you always tell him he is handsome. Sit close to him and run your hands over his body, arousing him.
As soon as he has paid the bar fine, you can stand clear of him. Even if he knows that you despise him, he'll still pay you. The hard part is getting him to pay the bar, and as soon as he has done that, the rest is easy.

3. Start collecting email addresses from all of your customers, once you have a good collection of addresses, a visit to your local Internet cafe is in order. Send everyone an email. Simply change the name on each email and send it off to all the guys. If you can remember something specific about them, mention that in the email too.
These walking ATMs all have a soft heart, so you need to tell them a story to get them to send you some of their riches. Start with a sick buffalo and if he doesn't reply, next tell him that your mother is ill. As a last resort, if he still doesn't send any money, tell him you are pregnant and the baby is his!

4. Practice crying on cue. It is essential that you can produce tears immediately. This will have the effect of helping the walking ATM machine to see things your way!

5. When you get a customer for an extended period of time, make sure he takes you shopping, with Rarn Tong (gold shop) being the best place to visit. Make sure he buys you gold and if he doesn't, see rule 4!
As soon as he has left Thailand, take the gold back to the shop and sell it straight back to them, thus increasing your pay out.

6. When locally based farangs are inside the bars, do not speak in Thai with your friends in the bar but rather use Lao, Khmer or any other dialects that you may know.
It's bad enough that some of them can speak and even read Thai, but Lao and Khmer should be kept as sacrosanct. Under no circumstances should the farang be taught our regional dialects.

7. Always see him off at the airport. Thai currency cannot be used in his country, so it is highly likely that he will give you all of his leftover Baht as he leaves and says goodbye.
While accompanying him to the airport, prevent him buying going-away gifts for his family and friends in his homeland, this will leave more money for you.

8. See Asian customers. They understand that we like to gamble, and they understand that we have lots of unemployed brothers and sisters who need to eat. Therefore, they pay a lot better than the farangs.

9. Remember, when you go with a farang, you must always ask for taxi money and give him the excuse that taxi drivers cannot give change on big notes. Don't let him see the small change in your wallet. If taxi money isn't forthcoming, see rule 4.

10. If you are no longer making money in Bangkok, move down to Phuket where you will be able to start making money again. Give Phuket a few years, then move on to Pattaya. Even if you are approaching 50, it is no problem as the walking ATM machines in Pattaya seem to be so blind, they will not notice.

In Taiwan I dated a girl who worked in a pub, but Taiwan is not Korea. Bartenders are not "fallen women" bringing disgrace on their family, so they aren't by definition skanks or prostitutes. She was a nice college girl then, still is now, and we're still friends. That place had awesome hawaiian pizza. Mmm.

Ah well it turned out that the latter bar did in fact offer extra services from their waitstaff. That's why my 'friend' got fired. She wasn't putting up what the bar was putting down if you get my drift. Her co-workers were however. And they were nice!

Anyway I am now a much reformed character. I haven't dated a bar girl in 16 months and the last one was so smoking hot it didn't matter what her job was.

Also, my earlier theory played out: Since I moved to a big city (Seoul) there are so many more options available that bargirls don't even come into the equation any more. In fact it's hard to meet bar girls like that in Seoul since bars like that are almost non-existant up here. Sure you have your hooker bars and your regular bars, but you don't have the small town 'local' with the super hot bartenders like you do in the country. I almost miss it..

Interesting read. One of the bar girls down here is pretty hot, but I couldn't do it . . . they can't turn that character trait off, and I wonder the last time they were ever honest to anyone.

Curious about the health inspector in Gwangju. Weird.

Mary an attractive yet intelligent woman who is fun to talk to and has potential.

Remember, this is the woman who will be helping to raise your kids.

I'm now married to a woman who makes more money than I do. The bad side of it is, she's overworked -- as in 12 hours per day plus sometimes weekends.

I'm trying to teach her my way of fighting with the boss (a Korean male) and using leverage against them. She doesn't like it (being stern and ignoring it when the big boy cries), because it's not the Korean way (allowing the boss to walk on you without question), but my way works.

It's great to work for an international company. It sucks when the boss is a Korean male, leaves at 6pm, and expects everyone else to work until 9pm.

In many ways young women appear to be nothing more than a cash crop in this country. Its not much different to Thailand- the exploitation runs deep. Its a sign of a backward country that women have such low status and few options. Korea hasn't changed much in the past millenia as regards attitudes to females.

If you're going to date one I think you're insane, but be prepared for an abused creature with no control of her life and a labyrinth of emotional damage and anger issues. You might have noble plans to rescue her from her life of slavery, but she's probably become hooked on it like a crack addict. These people are badly damaged.

I was really good friends with a bartender. She was young, hot and interested as was I, but wary of her bargirl status. Nothing ever came of our friendship outside of a lot of flirting.

I recently ran into her after not seeing her for a couple years and she's a teacher now, hot as ever and not a trace of bar left in her; however, I met someone amazing in the meantime.

Some bargirls may be a catch after all.

What a bunch of crap...I know plenty of girls here who are students etc and working bar jobs to get by, the same as girls do back home.

And as for the generalisations and exclamations of 'you'd be crazy to date one' etc above......well if that's your attitutude in life you won't go too far....while of course a lot of 'bar' girls in korea are involved in the sex industry, many are not and i reckon you should judge each person on a case by case basis.
