Public school teachers, how many days off did you have off last year?
I'm curious about:
1)vacation days
2)regular public holidays
3)special days(like elections, mid term exam days, and others)
4)half days |

I haven't worked a five day work week since May if that says anything. There was lots of random time off because of students going on camps, student elections, too humid, etc. |

i had 14 working days off (7 in the summer and 7 in the winter). there were lots of national holidays last year, which i did have off. my school had tons of exam days, ceremonies, trips, etc. all of which i was seat-warming at school for.
the only half day i can honestly recall was during the school's winter vacation when there was a bit of a snowstorm (to koreans, anyways) and i was allowed to leave after lunch |

With my extra 2 weeks for renewal and a good few days here and there, I got about 40 or 50 days last year. I also had half days during summer and winter camps.
This year will be less cos I'm not renewing and I have to work full days at camp, so maybe 30 days altogether, maybe more. We'll see! My school is good and I get on well with my principal so they let me take a few days if I ask them. |

I kept track of this in my calender. This is only Mar-Aug.
Total Mon-Fri days: 129
Days I got to stay home for whatever reason: 14 (national and local holidays, days everything was canceled, five extra days for summer vacation)
Days I went in and had no classes: 4
Days where I had only one class: 4
Half days: 10
Sick days: 6
Vacation(?): 9 days, but I was working in another school
No overlap in the categories. |

31 vacation days
5 days for special holiday
5 weeks of half days
lots of cancelled classes
Someone once told me that SMOE ps schools teachers really only teach 6 months out of a year but remember the other time will be spent sitting in the office alone, doing nothing, bored out of your skull. |

seems like i had a pretty crappy deal, for those that got extra vacation time (half days after camp, no seat-warming, etc.) are you in rural locations? if not, what cities? |

Seat-warming would have been a better vacation than half days at camp. IMO. (Sit in the air-conditioned office for eight hours watching videos or spend the morning fighting kids who don't want to be there, then go home to no AC and fry for the afternoon? Can't go anywhere, have to be at work early the next morning!) |

actually, i meant that i spent the morning teaching camp then did seat-warming for the whole afternoon, with the janitor or someone occasionally checking to make sure i was still there |

I've gotten the national holidays off, and I had my week of summer vacation. I had two days off for "sports days", and while I could have been made to chair-warm on those days, my co-teacher at that school is nice and just lets me go. I would have had a day off almost once a week, because of cancellations, etc, but because I teach at 7 schools, if one is closed, they just send me to a different one.
For the time that was not my "official" vacation during this summer vacation, for one week I worked 1.5 hours in the morning at a camp and had the rest of the day off, for 2 weeks I had to work at a teacher-training for the province, and this final week I've been chair-warming, even though the school is essentially empty. |

I got exactly what the contract says. Nothing more. I spent the whole summer teaching english camp in the morning , and sitting in an empty office in hte afternoon.
I got the red days off -national holidays.
What really makes me mad is the fact that alot of the schools ( eng teachers ) in the area where given extra time off or extra money because they were lucky enough to teach summer camp at another school.
i was originally asked to teach one week at another school .Had I taught the week , I would have gotten 2 extra days off. But for some reason , my school cancelled it .I bet the K teachers found out and complained.
So management cancelled it. |

My school did this too. They didn't cancel the camp, just my participation in it.The camp turned out to be terrible, but I still could have used the extra cash! |
