Any advice on what to do when you lose a wallet?
I've canceled my credit cards and flagged my name with US credit companies. I am going to report it to the police. Any other smart things to do? |

| I think you're the only one laughing there blackjack. OP, do report it to the police ASAP. I left my wallet in a taxi last year and after cancelling my cards and getting other things sorted out, I had it returned about 3 weeks later. The cards and even the cash (only about 30,000 won, but STILL) were there. I was amazed. Can't say you'll have the same luck, but do get it reported. |

I have lost wallets in the past and it sucks, just trying to make light of a suckful situation.
Only advice I can offer is in the future only keep stuff you use on a daily basis in your wallet. Do you really need that credit card that you only use for big stuff? Hell I normally don't even take out my ARC.
Just carry cash, drivers licence and bank card. Learnt this after second mugging and 2nd lost wallet (only 1 lost here, muggings back home) |

Besides calling the cops and reporting it lost. Checking out places to find it - like bars your frequent often, subway and bus lost and founds might prove helpful, too.
Some other advice trim the stuff from your wallet. I remember one other poster on the board got his wallet stolen and he had a important photo that was irreplaceable in it. That could have easily been avoid in this day and age of scanning and printing a loosable copy.
Take out your cards from back home too. Credit cards you rarely need, old SIN cards. I mean it might be interesting to have that old ID when you had LONG hair. Definelty fun to show while out drinking but lossing it when you can avoid it.
All you really need is your ARC, a few of those various point and discount cards from Kyobo, Dunkin Donuts, ATM/Bank Card.
I think identity theft rarely happens here in Korea. The most I have really heard about is Korean person looses their wallet and before they now it they have been registered on 15 internet and gaming sights using the National ID card.
Also one other point is having your address and phone number clearly marked or visible. Get a label put in a big place with your info. Heck write in it in Korean. TAKE the CASH, return the wallet. |

I don't want to get your hopes up but there is a good chance you may get it back. I've lost various things in Korea including wallets and I was suprised by how many of these things were returned to me.
Make an effort to go search for it. Believe it or not, your chances of getting your wallet back are much better than back home. I don't know why it is, but Koreans are generally much better than foreigners about turning these things in.
Good luck. |

About a year and half ago, wife I met up for dinner with a guy on this forum and his wife....I gave him my business card....
about 8 months later I get an email from some Korean reporter chick.
She found his wallet in a taxi.
I gave his wife her contact info, and he got his wallet back.
Some people in this country are honest. |
