I want to ship a box of stuff home, heard you can do it through the korean post for cheap, need some details.

1. How big is the box roughly, or what sizes can you get?

2. Is it a flat rate up to so many kg or do you know how much it would be for 10-20kg?

You shouldnt always rule out korean websites because sometimes they have them in english too.

Thanks, good find. It only says weight there though, nothing about size. Does that mean any size I want, or do they have standard size boxes or what?

I need to know how much space I'm going to get...

At the PO simply take a box of choice. There are two sizes available and both are stout and impressive looking. The larger should be ample for yr needs.

Then in the convenience of yr apartment make a considered pack, with the semifragile stuff in the middle, the whole thing being a labor of love.

On return to the PO make use of their magnificent binding tape and scissors.

I suppose if taxi rides are involved you might do things differently

The maximum box size available for shipping to North America via surface or air parcel is a #5 box (which is actually smaller than the max allowed).
Air freight and EMS have slightly different sizing allowed.

If you are making a box then the maximum combined linear dimensions are 200cm. width + width + height + height +Length <200cm.

In simple terms:
Wrap your tape measure around the box and add the length. If it is less than 2 meters you can send it by mail.

I packed 2 big boxes, the biggest being a little less than 1 square metre (maybe a little shorter but a little wider). It was too big for express service, but they slapped on the sticker and sent it anyway (with express you are supposed to use the provided boxes).

I heard with surface mail (the longest but cheapest way) you can use any box you like but Im guessing they dont expect anything above the usual. And I cant confirm if any size is ok or not. If its a problem you can always repack into one or two of the boxes at the post office. (You can also arrange to have them come pick up your boxes too).

Nah, it was all based on weight which was pretty accurate in the link I posted above. I sent 30kg of stuff to NZ (that was 2 big boxes) and it cost about 240,000won. Most of it was expensive, fragile or irreplacable so I didnt mind paying that much...

Ok, to review:

1. Get a #5 box from the post office for free

2. Pack it

3. Send it for the amount listed in the table sheba posted.


Correct? Shouldn't have any problems?
