You know the type I mean, they have a key code, chip or card swipe to open them......

The wife and I were thinking about buying one yesterday when I noticed the safety features on them. They all have the feature that once they get to 60C they will automatically open.......now couldn't a would be burglar simply heat the out side of the lock for a few minuets with a lighter of a small blowtorch, and hey presto they are in your house? The locks are made from metal and metal does conduct heat pretty quickly!!

Anyone with these locks worried about this simple way of opening them from the outside, or have I got this totally wrong.........

Surely that 60c works from the inside. It would be easier to buy a crowbar or cordless drill to open the door than heat it up.

Also for the door to actually reach that temperature wouldn't there be a high chance you'd be dead by then?

I'm asking about someone on the outside heating up the lock to open it to your house.......

If you used a blow torch on the lock I'm sure it would only take a minuet or two to get it to that temperature, it would be quieter than a drill...

That's scary... never heard of that!

I noticed some of the newer ones have two little 9v battery leads on the outside, in case your batteries die and you are locked out from the outside.

I don't trust the cheaper electronic locks, because they have a key entry back-up with a VERY small key that can be easily copied. More than one foreigner in Bundang has had his locks copied by someone putting putty in the hole and making a key out of it somehow.

Well I'm not saying it is possible but it certainly seems possible...60c isn't that hot, and using something on the outside of the lock i.e. a blowtorch could easily get it up to 60c in a minute of two, a blowtorch flame can go from 300c to 600c

I started this thread is see if I was being overly paranoid about not buying one...........
