I'm ready to drop the iPod and get a new MP3 player. I know people have mentioned the Cowon electronics, but what can you suggest for other alternatives? Or do you recommend the Cowon anyway?
Price is not an option as long as it is something that will work well for a while. I'd like a machine with some fun additions, too. |

What kind of functions are you looking for? Any specifications? |

I suppose I would like to play video, view photos, and play games as well. But not crazy, fancy games..maybe Scrabble and Solitaire. I guess I don't need anything too high-tech because I would really just be using it mostly for music. |

a lot of people are raving about the COWON D2.
i bought the 4 gig version and it has an SD slot for more memory. without DMB, it's only 140,000 won.
it doesn't have games ... but it does everything else. features include:
- music
- movies
- fm radio
- voice recorder
- korean/english and english/english dictionary (made by ybm)
- flash player (you can add games and other stuff like subway maps)
- picture album
- ebook/text viewer
- fun notepad/scribble pad
they're seriously good. the battery will go for 10 hours of movies or 50 hours of music ... i've never even come close to running out of charge.
that's my recommendation ... i used to own an ipod and i'll never go back.
cheers

The D2 does games like soduku, hit the duck etc.
Try iaudiophile.net for more details on Cowon PMPs, the D2 is the pocketable PMP as there are bigger ones that might interests you.
D2 has been quite useful for me, it played OGG out of the box which was useful because that was the format Ubuntu uses and youtube downloader uses as well.
Sorry, pressed the send button too soon.
There's iRiver, Creative and Sony. You might want to take a look at anythingbutipod.com for a list of mp3/pmps. |

I just checked out some MP3 players, and I think for now, the Cowon D2 looks like what I want. I didn't realize how small it is; smaller than a AmEx credit card!
Anyone else have something to say about a different MP3 player? |

The cowon might be a bit thick. It looks thicker than my creative and the sony is thinner than my creative. cnet.com has reviews for mp3 players. Sonys sound fantastic but offer less features than others and are pricey. |

Oh yeah...how much am I looking at for a Cowon D2? Also, where would be the best buy? I usually browse the popular Yongsan mart for deals... |

What is your reason for dropping the ipod? |

I think I'm just bored with the iPod, and iTunes can be a pain in the ass. Also, the battery sucks. I have the 30GB video, and it doesn't even hold up for a 30 min video. The only thing I like about the iPod products is the podcasts. Is there anyway of getting them without having an iPod? I was thinking of maybe keeping iTunes on my computer for my new MP3 player and still saving the podcasts. |

I'm in the market as well, but I'm just looking for something simple. Cheap with high quality audio playback. Any recommendations? |

John, what about I-river? Seen that little mickey mouse model they've got? That one is cheap, and popular. |

If you give me a model number I can check some reviews. If it means it has mickey mouse plastered all over it I'll probably be looking elsewhere though. I like my stuff to look slick, and anything overly gaudy will be automatically disqualified.
*edit*
Found it by searching iriver mickey mouse and it wasn't what I was expecting at all. Interesting idea, but apparently the sound quality isn't up to par.

There are plenty of other Atom/RSS feed reader that do Podcasts. You don't need Itunes for them. (Google is your friend) |
