Intermittent internet with KT?

Hi tech experts. I've been having intermittent internet pretty much since I got connected a couple of months ago, which is incredibly annoying and means I have difficulty using VoIP or making online transactions.

I have KT Megapass Lite DSL access. A summary of what's going on is:

If I switch the DSL modem on with the computer switched off, the "link" light will come on, flicker and then remain steady to show that the modem has established a link with (presumably) the exchange.

When I then switch the computer on, the LAN light comes on to show that there is (I presume) network continuity. While the connection is working the "data" light will flicker occasionally to show (I presume) traffic.

Now, at random times when the computer is switched on the "link" light will begin flashing slowly, then quickly, slowly, quickly etc. There is no connectivity while this is going on. Sometimes the link will be re-established, sometimes it won't (at which point I have to restart the modem and try again).

Sometimes the connection works fine immediately; if it goes down and doesn't re-establish quickly, it usually takes three restarts to get it back again; once re-established it may work fine, go down again every five minutes or go down at random intervals.

There appears to be no correlation with whether I switch the modem on before or after the computer, which application(s) I'm using, the amount of up/downloading or the time of day. My computer works fine with other internet connections.

Before I go through the difficulties of dealing with KT, does anyone have any ideas as to what might be happening, or tests that I could run?

I had a similar problem starting last weekend. There was a problem with the line coming into my building and my modem was an old model. They came out and fixed it quick and it's all good now. Heck, it's even better as my speeds are MUCH faster now!

Just call 02)520-7800. That's their English support line. They took my name, problem, and scheduled a tech to visit the next day (would have been same day but I had work). It was really no problem at all.

Update for anyone else having a similar problem: kprrok's suggestion was bang on. KT came out and replaced my modem the same day I called them, and my internet is working again (about twice as fast as it was before). Very Happy

KT service has usually been very good. I hate how they nickel and dime you.
