| So what has happened to give GB such a high medal count. Is it the anticipation of the next olympics. Best haul since 1920. Isn't that the Charriots of Fire year with Arthur Liddel? |

Get in there Dr Tim Brabant!!!! Another gold. And Belarus is stopping Germany from stealing all the rest of the canoeing medals. Sweet.
As for why we're suddenly doing so well, I don't know but suspect it's due to increased funding and planning going into sport in anticipation of the London Olympics. Australia on the other hand seems to be just coming down off the sports high caused by the Sydney Olympics.
Don't know what's happened to Germany though. They got over 30 golds in 92.

Eric Liddell won gold in the 400m in Paris, 1924 (Chariots of Fire).
He won bronze in the 200m that year too.
In 1920 Britain only got 15 golds.
Best olympic performance since 1908, when Britain gained 56 gold medals, but we all know things were different then, with fewer nations competing, and lots of events only having UK participants. |
