Can you look at these websites? Sometimes I get curious, but it is too much for me to handle. Blood and gory things really don't bother me too much, but it's the pics where mouths are gaping and the dead have horrible looks on their faces that bother me...the whole psychological aspect of it all.

Can you remember the most disturbing thing you saw on that site?

Yeah, me too.

It's funny, I can spend hours playing video games that involve hacking your opponents to bits with chainsaws or sending entire armies into machine gun nests knowing they'll be slaughtered... and I enjoy it.

But if it becomes personal, such as I hear a disturbing tale on the news or see a posthumous photograph of someone who thought they could leap from one skyscraper to another... then I can't handle it. Real, personalized visuals of death make me sick, as do stories, video and all of that.

I don't know why that is.

I think the worst case of it I experienced in years was when I got wind about that exhibit travelling the world with preserved, modified human corpses on display. The idea is really sick, and the lack of sanctity/respect they have for the human body really bothers me at a fundamental level... I can't really justify it either, as I'm not a religious person. This exhibit came up in a Philosophy class I was enrolled in towards the end of my studies the other year, and I was the only person who disagreed with the exhibit.

Before I was about to be laughed out of the discussion (when I was asked to defend myself to a bunch of people who thought "it's great for teaching the populace about science"), I just said that "I don't know why it bothers me... it just does. It really bothers me."

It's just a natural response I have to such things, I suppose.

But yes, rotten.com... haven't been there since I was in High School and I can't say I want to go back.

It's all Rotten is, and much much more. Use the video link at the top left of the homepage. The most disturbing, was a video of some Middle Eastern guy getting his arms and legs pulled off by two trucks. Or maybe it was the machete attack in Ivory Coast.

No, it had to be the Japanese porn video with two girls eating each other's shit and puke.

Mostly not. I find several of those videos depressing and such images last with me a long time. Like the local politician who put a bullet in his brain in front of a press conference. There was another horrible one of Chechin rebels cutting the throats of Russian conscripts. It's weird how they sliced their throats and these guys just then went and lied down to die. One guy got up and ran for his life instead of getting his throat slit but they quickly shot him down. Still, I'd rather run for it.

Hm I remember a long time ago when I was a teenager downloading music off peer to peer, one time I got this fake that ended up to be a video of some guy getting shot in the head (executed) and the image haunted me for a long time.

For your own sanity you'd be best advised to stay away from those sites!

You don't want to suffer from PTYD, or Post Traumatic Youtube Disorder.

PTYD often strikes after viewing something so horrendous on a website that it won't get out of your mind for over a month.

The most disturbing thing about those sites is the fact that they are interesting.

People in power (e.g. soldiers that are bored/frustrated/angry) push the boundaries the same way viewers on the internet are inclined to. I think the same compulsion that brings you to those sites is the same inclination to see something shocking in real life.

I see the potential for evil in me.

Any of the beheading videos circa 2004 are just God awful. Still refuse to watch them. Accidents or shootings I can take, but those are just inhuman.
