Great! Now I don't know if I should upgrade to a D200 or this one! That video mode sounds cool, but what I like more is the screen, the speed, and the low noise at high iso...but it won't meter old lenses...of which I have a few...

I think I'll stick with the D200...it should come down in price by early/late spring. Older tech, cheaper, and it'll meter my older lenses. Cheapest deal I've found back home for a D200 with a battery grip was $750US. Should come down by at least 150 in the spring.

Here's the official word from Nikon on the D90:

the trap here is that nikon and canon have finally figured out how to bleed consumers dry ... by constantly upgrading bodies. people keep upgrading camera bodies for no good reason. buying lenses is a good investment, because they hold their value ... good optics are good optics. but buying camera bodies is a waste of time ... because you're losing buckets of money each time you upgrade for an extra few megapixels or more bells 'n whistles.

bodies are 100% technology. just like computers, they're outdated in 6 months.

i own a D200 too, and i plan to keep my D200 until the arse falls out of it ... i could easily upgrade to a D300 or a D700. but it's not really worth it ... and i definitely wouldn't downgrade to the D90. it's FPS is slower than mine, the body is plastic and the features (except improved noise handling) are not features i need.

i'd recommend hanging on to your D200. it's still a great camera. don't blow a grand on kit you don't need. sure, it's pretty, but how much will it make you a better photographer????

if you're a pro, then a D3 or a D700 is money well spent. otherwise, you're just falling for the trap of wasting hard earned cash on tech you don't need.

as for live view ... i have to say that it's the one technology i really hate in DSLRs ... it turns big, expensive professional cameras into big, stupid point and shoot.

video feature??? oh, please! another stupid technology. if you want video, buy a video camera.

i'm still waiting for GPS to be standard ... because it should be already.

i'm still waiting for physical shutters to be replaced with electronic shutters (how does 60 fps sound??)

i'm still waiting for nikon and canon to get their act together and release a universal, non-proprietary raw system.

i can think of a lot of useful things for a camera to have ... live view and video are definitely not on that list.

*rebuttals are welcome*

cheers

This camera is very very interesting with its live view and 720p recording.
