Hey guys,
Is there a way I can have my computer turn on at a set time - by itself?
I guess it would be like autostart or something... is it in XP?
Thanks!
BT

You got me curious about this. Most computers aren't capable of this without external hardware, but apparently some computers' bios (what the hell is the plural of bios?) is capable of doing this.

When you first turn on your computer you should see it tell you to hold an F-key (f12, f2, fCool to go to bios settings. You might find it if you poke around in there, but be careful.

It is usually the <DEL> key to access the BIOS on most mainboards.

You hit it just after the initial post screen pops up and it will take you into the BIOS.

Thanks for your replies, but what would I do once I'm in the BIOS screen?

Like 'autostart on'? Then what?

Thanks!!!

ps Anyone know of a program (free?) that can do it?

Just wondering, why would you want to do this?
Interesting question.
I was thinking something like a timer (same you use for lights) and tape your power button.
I think the problem is more with hardware then software. If you could bypass the power button then the timer option is possible.

It has to be at the BIOS level (it has it's own power).
A software solution won't work because your computer is powered off.

Wake on "variable" would be the BIOS option you are looking for.

The other option would be to diable your power switch (default to ON) and set a hardware timer in the power circuit).

Optionally, just leave it on 24/7 - it won't hurt the computer - my computers run 24/7 and have done so for years without problem.
