A mini series on the leading days of the Iraq War. It's pretty gory, and doesn't paint a very pleasant picture of US Marines.

Interspersed with real footage of the battlefield and war dead.

I didn't think it was gory at all. It seemd the guys were wanting action and seeing little. I agree it made the soldiers look bad, and the top brass worse.

There were some classic lines.

Soldier :"O.K which country do we invade next?"

Civilian: "We can't sleep, we want vallium."

There were quite a few bodies strewn about; headless, gutted, run over by Hum Vees.
Not your average TV gore. I don't think there is any other TV show that can compare with the images they filmed.

You can read the original series of articles they based the show on, written by E. Wright when he was embedded with those recon Marines, here.

I agree. It actually made the soldiers look like normal people of the times, and their bad behaviour speaks more to the soul of our generation than to themselves as individuals. All the characters are likeable and believable, and one of the actors is from the actual unit the show is based on and he plays himself. It was a good series over all.

Yes, some of the dialogue is great. Especially the guy who is hopped up on "Rip Fuel" all of the time and has random outbursts where he says whatever is on his head, like his theory about how the Iraq war boiled down to "a severe lack of *beep*" and "why can't we ever invade a country with good p.ussy? That's because countries with good p.ussy are happy countries". There's also his random recant of the Avril Lavigne song "Sk8ter Boi" when he was taking a piss.

The only episode he was quiet in was the last one when he finally ran out of uppers.

The best scene in the show is the one where everyone sings "I'm just a teenage dirtbag, baby" completely out of tune.

Great show, not for the faint of heart...

Really? It's an HBO show... Oz had worse stuff than that in it's run, as did a couple of other HBO series. It was gory but it definitely wasn't over the top.

I guess I don't watch much TV. I've never seen a TV program that showed hacked up bodies being run over.

I liked the series, it touched on a lot of stuff that you would run into when serving in an army. It was certainly better than "Over there" that series was yanked what 5 eps in?

I've enjoyed it thoroughly.
As far as officers go, these are pretty squared away compared to real ones.
Not so gory I thought.
I made it a point in '91 to not run over Delta Bravo's (dead bodies,)
but once dirty nasty legs, reservists and assorted other pogues enter the AO,
it's just like roadkill everywhere.

If you have the equipment, here is a link to the complete series in 720p. Can be done in under 2 hours with a fast internet connection.

Must sign up for the board first but that's a peaceful community (just like Dave's).

I loved this series....and it just finished here after 7 episodes. There's some cruel stuff to see at times, but there's a good balance in the series -- not all marines were out there to shoot every "towelhead" in sight."

I have a friend that's a marine and he says that the show is really accurate in portraying how marines act -- another cool part of it, so you know it's not just another Saving Private Ryan.

Oh yeah, favorite line...after Ray gets a kill:

"Look Brad, I'm a man now, just like you...except I don't look like a fgt and talk all educated."

Good looking board. I want to get Clapton Live in Japan from there, but I can't be bothered with rapidshare. Is there another way?

If you don't have an RS premium account then it is a bit tricky (I can't understand why you don't want to go through the whole thing 45 times or so). There is another service called "Megashares" which allows file sizes up to 10 GB, I could try and upload the file there. Only I am not sure whether you need a premium account on MS to download such a big file.

Another way would be a torrent, I normally use Demonoid and if you are lucky you could get the file in a few days or faster. I guess emailing the file is out of the question Rolling Eyes

This is a great quality concert. It is definitely worth the effort to get it, the picture quality is awesome, the sound is great, and the audience, being Japanese, is perfect.

But my personal advice would be to use Paypal to get a short premium subscription, say a month or so, to get the files faster. I had a total of 20 RS premium accounts when I came here because of the fast internet, I could get 25GB in less than 2 hours...

Oh yeah, another quick way is of course that we just meet and exchange the file via portable HD or similar Idea if you are in Seoul. Much of the Rapidshare files have been deleted in the past 2 months after these sites grew big enough to draw attention.

My favourite movie site must be tehparadox.com, many more movies there, but HDmania has some rare gems like the Clapton concerts.

You can PM me if you want the file.
