Looking for a user friendly cost effective electric bycicle in the Seoul area. Would prefer to be able to view and test drive. Can be from a shop or for sale by owner. |

I've done a fair bit of research into these, and your choices are either lead acid (550,000-700,000) or Lithium ion (1 million plus.) The lead acid ones are sometimes cheap China imports.
In Songpa, where I live, some of the shops have ebikes from time to time. If you ask at enough shops (bring some photos) you may be able to get one.
www.hirun.co.kr is a Korean maker of ebikes, some good looking ones on that website, but I can't speak to the quality at all. You could try getting a Korean friend to order one or ring them up yourself.
Me, I'm gonna wait until I go back to NZ and can get my hands on one of these:

There's an importer in NZ and the quality is very good apparently.
PS I'd stay away from "cost effective" myself if I was you. Some of the cheap bikes are pretty nasty. If you want to save dollars you could order a kit from China and do a conversion yourself. Up to you. |

What my friend is looking for is a bike that he can pedal most of the time but if tired or having to go up some of the crazy hills around where we live he can switch to the electric engine. |

best bet is to check out the area around Chungmurro station where the motorcycle shops are (where I say the electric bike) or ask a some of the higher end bike shop owners what they know.
here is an expensive electric lowrider Schwinn (990,000) available in Korea
