Anyone interested in joining Aikido classes in Daegu with me? It'd be nice to not be the only foreigner in the class. I was going for a few months, took the summer off for some travelling and plan to get back into it in September. The classes are for adults, there aren't many students and it's located beside the Shinmae subway station on line 2. Class times are T-F, 9-10 and there's a class on Saturdays (I can't remember the exact time but it was late morning or early afternoon). I only go 3 days a week but the tuition is the same, 100,000KRW a month. There are some initial sign up fees and you've got to buy your uniform, too. I can't remember the exact pricing for those but it wasn't too bad.
Just to be clear, Aikido is not the same as Hapkido. For starters, Aikido is a Japanese martial arts style and it's pretty rare to find in Korea. I've also studied some Hapkido and there are some similarities in the locks and throws but many other differences. So, if you're interested in checking it out, let me know! |

In case it's not obvious, the weekday 9-10 classes are in the evening. There are morning classes as well, but I can't make it to those so I never bothered to find out when they are. If you really ant to know, ask and I'll find out. Also, the Saturday classes run from 3-5pm. If you want to match days with me, I typically go Tuesday, Thursday and Friday but I'm thinking about also going on Saturdays. |

Breathing, throwing, rolls, submissions... no punching or kicking.
All self defense.
While i find it the practice a little soft, i have seen a video of this 72 year old aikido master being jumped by 3 guys with knives. He disarmed and subdued all three of them. |

It was a security camera vhs tape from the 80's that a teacher in high school showed us. I'll look and see if it ever made youtube. |
