I posted about getting a Dream satellite and no one responded. I was hoping to get some information. Does anyone know anything about satellites in general. It would really help. I can't really find any good resources on the internet.
Thanks, |

I also had the same question as I am an avid hockey fan. I posted awhile ago about buying a system from Canada and having it shipped. The answer I got from here (and confirmed from my friend who works for Bell Canada) is that the satellites have a "footprint" or area that they broadcast over and therefore bringing a dish over here would not be able to receive the signal as the satellite footprint is over North America. Though the Philippines is closer to Korea it still is most likely out of range. Hope this helps...... |

Just as Canadians can pirate Amercian satellite, the same should hold true for Philippine satellite here. Satellite companies sell the system in China as far north as Shanghai, so it is not a stretch to think it would work here.
I don't know a lot, but apparently I know a little more than you.
Thanks though |

Why not just go to a NHL torrent site and download any game you want?
You wont get them live, maybe a day or two later, but free, and easy.

Your words today conveniently in another thread:
"Thought I would update you on my research into the subject.
It would seem that Dream TV in the Philippines is not accessible to South Korea. We are outside of the satellite reception footprint. Though it may be possible to receive some signals it is unlikely."
Guess you don't know "a bit more than I do on the subject" after all as that's exactly what I was saying with Korea being outside the footprint area, but you were quick to snap that I was wrong. Looks like you shouldn't be so quick to judge the advice you get next time. |

Many channels are available "Free to Air" (FTA) which means you just need to point your dish at the satellite and use your reciever to get the channel. No subscription of anykind. I have about 700 FTA channels back home in Europe.
This is a great website that will tell you all the FTA and non-FTA channels available in your area...currently ASIA i presume...
http://www.lyngsat.com/
All you have to do, is buy the dish, reciever, and LNB (low noise blocker that goes at the end of the dish)....and set it up yourself.
However, we are in Korea so maybe there's not many english FTA channels. Have a look at the website above to see what's available.
As for Skylife and Dreamlife and all that....i don't know. You'd probably need a korean speaking friend to handle that. |

You were just talking out of your ass though. If I had asked the same question about Thai satellite you would have likely given the same answer, an uninformed answer. Clearly I still know a bit more than you. Just stating a fact, though I apologise if it sounded rude. |

If you mean that I didn't do any research on the specific satellite company, than no I didn't. However as I said before my friend who works for Bell Canada told me of the "footprint" problem, therefore I made my own conclusion (simply by thinking how far away the Philippines is (compared to the U.S. and Canada) and said you'd probably have the same problem with regards to getting a satellite dish over here. Your response did come across as rude and whatever way you look at it I was frackin right!
Instead of simply eating some humble pie and putting the information that you found in THIS thread, you conveniently started another thread so you wouldn't look like such an ass clown. All you had to say was something like "Hey I did a bit more research and turns out bourquetheman was right, it would be a footprint problem if I got one from the Philippines. Sorry man."
That would've been the easiest thing to do but I venture you don't easily admit you're wrong very often. Case in point was this thread. Anyway I've wasted way too much time on this but just wanted to clear this up.
Sincerely good luck in finding your shows.................... |
